  • Hello der

Hey all, Im new to this forum, not the f-body forum scene. lol. Just lookin to join another place to hopefully help others and get help. I like to think Im fairly knowledgeable when it comes to these cars, Ive had my 97 Camaro for 5 years now and have done everything to it but the paint job.

I have a pretty long history with this car, so be ready for a long read...

I originally bought the car on my 16th bday with only 32k on the clock. It was completely stock, 30th Anniversary edition. My first mod was a SLP CAI, then Pacesetter headers/hi-flow cat/ls1 catback. Then I did some minor suspension mods (32mm front sway bar and UMI LCA's). Then I decided I needed to go faster this past summer. So I turbo'd the car. Had FFH's from Force Fed Fabrications, OBX intercooler, 65# injectors, Greddy BOV, Turbonetics WG, and a Master Power T70 turbo. I LOVED the setup.

Unfortunately it was hell putting the kit on, it wasnt nearly as "bolt on" as the previous owner said it was, I ended up having a car lift lowered on to my toe during the install and nearly lost my big toe. After that I finally got the car together, was driving down the road and the oil feed line to the turbo burst (was using a temp rubber line). This caused all the oil to spill out of the engine. I thought I turned the car off before any damage was done. Got the line repaired with a braided steel line, and the car was fine for about 2 months. After those 2 months a rod bearing finally decided to spin (most likely started when the oil spilled out 2 months earlier), and I was in a financial situation where I had to sell the turbo in order to rebuild the engine. So now I am back to square one. I dont think the car will ever go back to FI, but I am looking to buy an ARH cam, 105# valve springs, and a dbl roller timing chain.

The car also had a history of bad paint jobs. The paint was in amazingly good condition when I got it. I then put vinyl stripes on it, someone backed their truck on the hood of my car so I had the stripes painted on, they got screwed up twice, and finally i have stripes that I LOVE.

The car sits right now with:
    Strano 1.2" lowering springs
    Bilstien Shocks
    32mm front sway bar
    UMI non-adjustable LCA's
    Customs CAI
    Pacesetter headers
    3" cutout
    ls1 catback

But enough talk, here is the history of my car in pictures...

When I first bought the car:

    When I did the stripes:

When the stripes got painted on (you can tell they are much skinnier and one was actually angled in more  )

And the new stripes/paint job w/ intercooler showing:

    The turbo setup:

    Engine rebuilt (by yours truly)

And the new grille to fill in the empty space on the front bumper (that thing hanging out is a piece of cloth holding the grille level, it has been removed lol) And excuse the car being so dirty:

The car will be 100% done tomorrow when I fix the heater hoses (1 sprung a leak). Its been sitting for almost 2 months now, and was sitting for 2-3 months while I was installing the turbo due to minor things happening (including my toe incident)

      Re: Hello der

well you look familiar. I didn't see those pics in your turbo build thread on FTV6 though.

Anyways, welcome! I liked the vinyl stripes you had put on the car compared to the ones that got painted on. Where did you get the stripe kit from?

        Re: Hello der

I think I put all those on there? IDK though, been a while since I really looked through that thread. lol.

And really? I much prefer the new stripes, they are the 30th anniversary stripes just in black instead of orange. And the stripes kit I bought from here:

        http://www.colebrothers.com/graphics/camaro.html

The only thing about the vinyl stripes is it kills the paint underneath. When they took my stripes off my white paint had turned yellow, and the stripes had been on there for 2 years.

No problem dude. It's amazing how much you learn about these engines from rebuilding them. lol.

                    Re: Hello der

I tried searching for a pic of ahank's car, but it seems none of them are hosted by photobucket anymore. Anyone have one saved by chance? Just when I thought my car was original...lol. But I did notice ahank had/has a 3.4, so not completely twins. lol
