I think he means they dropped in an LS1. Sounds like they made it look like a 98-up. If it looks like it's in good shape and you can verify it hasn't been wrecked at some point, $2500 may not be a bad price. Maybe you can talk them down a couple hundred.
Put a new rear end on it and get that leak fixed, and it may be a nice car to have some fun with.
ok....
well the engine has a head gasket leak or a intake leak.
(coolant smell in exhaust)
no milky oil what so ever.
car has long tubes with stainless steel borla exhaust all the way back.
has a fast 90mm or something like that. Intake.
he was origionally asking four grand but dropped cause he needs cash in a bad way. (maybe a crack head not sure lol)
he bought the car from an auction. i think it was a stolen recovery.
whole car has 86k miles.
hurst 6 speed.
ls1 swap. from an 01 corvette.
so its basically got a blown ls1 in it. it doesn't matter if it doesnt have milky oil yet, because it will eventually. Personally, it sounds like a good deal for the money IF there is nothing else further wrong with it than what you know (but possibly unlikely unless he really does just need fast cash). But, if you aren't comfortable tearing down the motor to replace the head gasket.. steer clear.
Does it seem to run OK? If you think you can get that leak fixed yourself, and get a new rearend (or get the current one fixed) 2500 still doesn't seem too bad. Since the coolant smell is in the exhaust, you're probably not getting coolant in the oil, which is good. If it were mine, I would take the heads off and replace the gaskets, since by the time you get the LIM off, you're almost there anyway.
If the car seems OK other than the issues you described, I'd go for it. That is, if you can fix it yourself. If you have to pay for a shop to fix the engine, I'd forget it.
For that much buy it and fix it, or have a mechanic fix it since your getting a great deal, I would be careful when they say it only has 87,000 miles though , becuase it could be 300,000 becuase you will never know the exact miles of it. I would buy it and have the motor rebuilt and th rear redone just to be sure.
08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
96' Camaro M5 to A4 conversion, alot of mods . GT35R Turbo full suspension. Built engine
I wouldn't go that far. I can find complete engines for under 2k.
so you are saying you've never seen a complete ls1 go for that? I have. And its not very uncommon either.
So say for some odd reason no one has ever purchased a complete ls1 for that price, hes also got a t56 or 4l60e to go with it, and that for sure can go for 2k+
