    what should I buy as a gift ?

    .... I dated a girl nearly 10 years ago, and her mom got ahold of me on facebook this weekend and said she wants me to have all her husbands tools & tool chest (He past away around 1990ish)

    Its a very strange situation, when I was dating her daughter she didnt really like me much towards the end of our relationship (she caught us:p)

    Its a really nice craftsman tool chest, full of tools. She says she would feel too guilty selling them, and doesnt want a stranger to have them.. and knows i'd put them to use.

    I told her id love to have them and that it was extremely generous of her. I told her if she ever needs any help to let me know (shes moving in the near future and I offered to help her move as well)

    I still feel like I should get her some sort of gift, showing my appreciation for the generous offer / gift

    Give me some idea's you think would be suitable to give her

    And NO..... Not my cawk Assssholes

      just jokes, you can't go wrong with some flowers and a thank-you card!

            I know you're used to questions about women as a hint of desperation, but I assure you I don't need it that bad. If all else fails, there's the strip club.

              That depends what they like or like to do and how much money you have.

              I know those craftsmans are not cheap. I bet you her husband spent over 2k on those. If it were me and I live close to a place like Las Vegas, I would get them a 3 night stay at a hotel. Or if they like the theaters and art tickets to that too.

                I wish we had a "like" function on this website. I would say that this is one of the best comments (especially from a newcomer) that I have seen.


                I also agree with the second part of this post. You won't be able to get her an actual gift (would just come off as awkward), so do something symbolic. I would probably go with a gift card for a nice restaurant. Otherwise you could offer to help them with a project around the house or something.

                  My thoughts exactly. Taking them out to dinner might get awkward, but a gift card to a restaurant for her to use with who she wants would work nice. Then get a simple thank you card and write inside how you're willing to help if they need any. I think that's all you need. She's not giving you this gift expecting something in return, so something basic that shows your appreciation will get the job done.

                    Just send her a card two weeks after you take the tools. Tell her how much you've been using them & etc... Put her on your Christmas Card list.

                    I think any type of gift would be awkward.

                      She's not a close or best friend so you should make sure your gratitude is explicit. Sending a hand written thank you note shortly after receiving the tools would show good manners and gratitude. If you decide to give her a gift it will be as awkward as you make it. This woman obviously thought something of you to give you her dead husbands tool box. I doubt that any reasonable gift you give her would be more awkward. Give her something she will enjoy or offer to help where it's needed. Remember that personal gifts are not quid pro quo and shes not expecting anything back. You don't have to give her the gift with the thank you note. If you know shes moving soon helping her would be a great way to do something nice and show you care.

                        this is all i would expect. if you show up with a gift, it might be weird for her.

                        i wouldn't take her out, nor would i give her a gift card for dinner or a movie, you don't know if she's dating anyone. in the card i would include a gift card to babies r us. just make sure she knows its for her daughter and not her lol don't want to come off as an *** lol...welllllllllllll you always come off as an *** so guess it doesn't really matter
