I heard royal purple isnt that good...I dont intend on swapping back after I go synthetic

Use a break-in oil initially, or at least a conventional oil for the break-in period then go to a synthetic. The nice thing about royal purple is that they have so many application specific oils. Ive always used Mobil 1 personally. Im only aware of one place in town that you can get Amsoil here. I know a couple of people that use the product, but dont know much about it specifically. You could also consider a race oil with higher contents of zinc and other anti-wear agents. You would have to do a little research though to see if it would clog your cat, or even if its legal there.

my theory is, if it is as good as they claim it is, everyone would have it and use it.

not if the price was through the roof. lol. we have a lot of cheap people these days that won't pay over walmart pricing for anything. lol

well this is the thing...I hear its good, and if I either sign up as a "preferred customer" or as a "dealer" I buy it at wholesale, and it actually comes out to be just a few dollars less than what it would cost me to run mobil 1...

hey if it's what you like, go for it. I'm just thinking if GM puts mobil 1 in the ZR1 and CTS-V motors it must be pretty good.

I had a mechanic try and talk me out of synthetic all together, he said they don't do any better than the regular oils.... Not sure why he talked me out of it he profited from me paying extra for mobil one?

Think of it this way, if there are so many people trying to make money back from that pyramid scheme style invention, do you expect to hear bad things about it?

....Or they have a bargaining agreement and/or mutual clause. GM can buy oil in large quantities from Mobil, and use Mobil in their cars. I think its more of a marketing thing than it is the oil itself.

BTW, Mobil 1 is NOT a true synthetic oil like Amsoil - it's a blend which is allowed per marketing rules. Got to read the technical stuff.

only a few of their oils are SAE certified, because their top tier ones are not...and on their site it says that it is because it costs too much and would require them to change their formula as it would not "pass the tests" which cost over 175,000$ per formula to test. I know I read somewhere that they do not add certain additives to their oils which are supposedly required by the tests...

When I read a little more into it, I think I would be using there XLT? oils (I think it was) which are SAE certified...

but what about there marketing tactics? if I use the product and it is good, I wouldnt mind selling it since it was literally cost me 15$ more to be a dealer than it would to be a preferred customer getting the product at cost. The way I am looking at it is, I could probably easily sell a couple cases a month without issue as I know several guys switching/using synthetic oils like RP. Not looking to get rich by any means, but it would definetly help bring some sort of cash flow even if its $50/month kinda thing. But the way this thing sounds is very similar to a pyramid kinda scheme, which is what makes me question everything including the product, despite the fact that they have been in buisness for 37 years...
