  • just bought a new motor

I bought an l26 out of a 2006 buick lacrosse with 59870 miles on it today. About time, cars been down for a year now because of a "bent or broken rod". Ok so just to make sure ill need to switch out my intakes, oil pan, water pump, and oil filter thing right? I know there's a ton of threads on this, and I read one earlier today, just having a brain fart right now.

Also flexplate, fuel rails w/injectors, exhaust manifolds, oil pump pickup, swap the valve covers or swap sides with the L26 ones. water pump is the same, but I changed mine just because I wanted a new one.

Thats all I can think of right now. I just finished mine too, and it runs great!

Bluex, yeah I was already planning on swapping out the fuel rail just because I wasn't sure if the fwd one was the same or not. I have headers, so the manis. won't even be there, and I was already gonna change out the flywheel because I have a centerforce df clutch.
Ssms, I know, 3 days after I put on the sway bar you sold me, some kyb agx shocks, and some umi lca's and phb I blew her up. I didn't even really get to test her out lol. I spent my whole income tax return on her this year thinking it was something else, then pulled the top end off 3 times thinking the heads or intake gaskets were goin out only to take her to a shop and them saying my motor was toast. Yeah I feel like a jackass.

Someone should do a nice write up on this. There seems to be a number of people now that has this.

if mine was actually an L26 rather than the L36 like I thought it was...I would have a nice write-up...along with a bunch of pretty pictures lol...

The oil pump pick up is in the pan right? How can you tell if its a series 2 or 3?

If you use your pan, then take the pickup from your old engine...keep the pickup together with the pan...I found when I swapped over my engine just now, the fwd pickup looked identical to the rwd one I had...except it was like .5-1 inch shorter....

Re: just bought a new motor

If your motor threw a rod like mine did, get a new one. You will never get all the little pieces of metal out of the old one. They are only like $32 at auto zone for a melling pickup. It had to be ordered, but I had it the next day.

$32 is cheap insurance so you dont have to do this again......

With 60000 miles on the ticker, should I get a new timing chain or would a new tensioner be ok?

how's the tensioner look? you already have the motor apart anyways...it wouldnt take much to change it...
