Okay, I recently had my Camaro inspected by the mechanic I use when the job is too difficult or my knowledge is not up to par. The rear main and oil pan gasket both need replaced. The quote came out to $600-700.
The car is also STILL in need of a driver side power window motor, new stereo (cd player quit working), all new speakers (trashed), and a new exhaust from the cat on back. The single outlet factory exhaust is still on the car and the muffler has a small hole.
The positives about the car... It cleans up nice, never been in an accident that I'm aware of, interior is like new, crisp & tight steering and suspension (almost like a brand new car), the tires and brakes are newer w/ roughly 18k on both. The fuel pump, radiator and a/c compressor have been replaced within the past two years.
In order to repair both oil leaks, the window motor and replace the stereo equipment, my estimate is somewhere between $1,200-1,500 for everything.
This is a 2000 Camaro with 120k miles. I might be lucky to get $2,000 or $2,500 out of it for trade-in providing the dealer doesn't inspect the vehicle. If I sold the vehicle outright, as-is to a private party, I'd image I would fetch the same amount.
What is my best option here? Do I put the money into the car or take a loss and move on to something else. Something with an LS1 perhaps... :stp:
V6 or V8 doesn't matter much to me as I don't drive reckless. My insurance is extremely low with the multi-vehicle discount. But if I bought another mullet mobile, I would opt for an 8 cylinder this time. Oh, and I also wanted to mention that purchasing a new vehicle would require a 36 or 48 month loan, something I do not have right now.
