  • Loan Came through - planning the next step.

So my personal loan through my 401K program came through. Couldn't pass up prime +1% when I had 3.5K on credit cards (%20+ interest) This will save me over 1K over the coarse of the next year with putting in a little extra to cover car repairs. My credit score will improve dramatacilly as I don't believe this loan hits my credit report because its coming right out of my 401k and being backed by the rest of my investments.

My guestimation plan for the remaining 2k:

    Exhaust: V8 Takeoff catback $200 - 3" magnaflow cat (have) - pacesetters : $300-$450
    Mig setup: $350

Shocks: Kyb Agx all 4 corners: $450

    Springs: Undecided ~$200-300

Bushings:: Everything I can replace $200

    CAI: $150

Passenger door seal: $205 on gmpartsdirect - anyone know of anything cheaper - keep getting puddles in the rear pasenger side. No convert or t-tops. Gasket looks wet near the mirror usually but so does drivers side but no puddle there. I think it may be leaking in at the gasket and running along the plastic trim at the bottom of the door jam and heading to the back.

    Does this sound realistic?

I really want to keep my car running rather than replace it despite its rough condition. Its leaking oil so maybe I should calculate some intake / rear main / oil pan seals depending on where its coming from. Its dripping on the exhaust y pipe so I'm thinking rear main or intake.

I'm looking for insight to complete hard rubber bushing packages - poly scares me a bit despite some great experiences from some members. Should I just go with the 1le rubber or does somewhere sell a complete front set (where I think I'm most worn)?

After this my plans would be 3.43 rear end with lsd z28 takeoff, aluminum ds, cam, HPtuners and 50-75 shot to dial it all in - another 2-3K I'm guessing for round 2 of replacements.
96 White M5 Camaro. Manual everything. Magnaflow cat, dynomax dual outlet axle back. Swapped to a disc rear with 3.42s and a torsen differential, kyb gr2 rear shocks, moog rear endlinks.

You're borrowing against your retirement savings to mod your car?

Kinda seems like a dumb idea to me.

I got the loan to pay off credit cards and pay for repairs so they don't end up back on the cards. Suspension is shot and exhaust is rusty and leaky. I could just do the cat back but its not that much more to do it all. The rear end, ds, cam and shot would be down the road and not paid for with the loan.

Fab your own CAI, it's cheaper.

          Your list seems pretty good.
As far as weather stripping goes, I'm not sure exactly the part that you need but I found some on www.rockauto.com for something like 21 bucks. I'm probably looking at the wrong part cause that's a huge price difference.

This. It's always bad to loan against your 401k unless it's DIRE circumstance. I just called on thurs and got my highest rate card dropped to 6.99%. I'd try that route before taking money out of my retirement savings.

If that's not the right part and it's a bird, lemme know. I can pull whatever you need off my parts T/A.

Do you pay back your loan to yourself or are you going to have a penalty? I know my plan is: you can take out a loan and pay it back on top of your current contributions. But it all goes right back in. All still belongs to you, including intrest.

Exactly, and borrowing on your 401k is ignorant as ****, partially because its not real retirement income in the first place. And if its all you got, you're going to want to keep it all and not take a penny from it till you're retired, by which time you'll need a job at Walmart to make up for the bills your measly 401k won't cover anyway.
