Honestly, I didn't think then things were worth a damn either, but after playing around with it now for an hour, this thing has some use to it.

Can you be more specific? Convince me why it's worth the money, I'm curious as to what you think. I haven't gotten the chance to mess with one yet.

I chose the rims lol.


ipads are cool, I just don't see why; it doesn't even support flash. I'll wait for the blackberry playbook.

Those things are pretty cool, but I could never justify the cost considering it's limitations. Getting it as a gift is the way to go. Sounds like a score to me.

Ok, after playing with it for a day, I can say I am somewhat impressed with it, though it's not without it's lacks.

Pros...
Internet capability
Apps
Easy as hell to use
Small
HD capable
Certain apps can be used for my own line of work (I don't have to carry around a ton of notes like I have been in the past)
Damn long battery for such a small device
If you can download it into iTunes, you can put it on here.

Cons...(some particular to the model I have, some are just limitations to the iPad itself)
Small hard drive (mine is only a 16 gig)
It's NOT a laptop. can't just put whatever you want on it like you could with a laptop.
Mine is just wifi, not 3G capable (going to fix this by getting a phone I can use as a hotspot)
No USB port, only the proprietary Apple socket on the bottom, used by almost
all of apples products.
Glass screen, easily scratched, but is a fix with a $30 rubber clear coat screen protector that is a PITA to put on, but goes on clean once dried.


Now you have to understand that I had received the base model iPad, simply because not only I got one, but my GF, her brother, AND his wife also got one. The GFs parents spent $2500+ getting us all an iPad, a screen protector, and a case that doubles as a stand. Getting the one with the 3G service would have complicated the gift by having to get the service to go along with it. I plan on using it in conjunction with a phone with hotspot wifi capability, while the GF and her brother work in areas that have wifi already installed.

Now, I already had a 3G iPhone before this, but this thing is a little more capable than the iPhone. The picture is more clear, I can read with it better, and it's not like using a phone to do things a phone naturally just isn't supposed to do. Everything I could do on the iPhone, I can do on here, but things that are a little impractical on an iPhone I can do on here with ease, for example, I've been watching WWII in HD on this thing, and it's just as good as watching it on my 1080p 42" in my living room, cept here I can watch something on this while the GF overruns my tv whenever she is here. But there is still some stuff I'm learning about this thing.

Also, in conjunction with my comcast service, I can use Xfinity to control my DVR remotely, as well as change channels on any tv in my apartment using my iPad. +1 for the iPad.
