I started 2 months after my 16th birthday with a 89 Silverado K-15 that we got new. Moved up to my brother's hand-me-down 98 Dodge Dakota when the steering column broke on the Chevy. 7 months later the ball joint fell out of the right from on the Dakota, and 2 weeks later I got my Camaro. And I'm over a year no real problems with it...
I drove a beige '94 Accord through high-school, but it was technically my father's car. First car I ~owned~ was a '97 Oldsmobile Acheiva, blue. Got it at police auction for 150$. Some old lady was hit head-on in it, and her insurance totaled it. The hood was held down by a bungee cord.
A mallet to beat the fenders, bumper, and hood into a somewhat workable shape, as well as a fresh battery and alternator and I was in business. That lasted me for about two years, through endless electrical troubles and an exploded heater core. I eventually gave that car to my girlfriend, where it sits outside her apartment to this day, deader than a doornail.
After that I 'upgraded' to an '89 Ford Ranger. This was a freebie from my father. It has a short, and thus the battery needs to be disconnected before parking it or you wake up to a dead truck. That's now used to haul firewood out of the forest at my parent's property.
My '97 Firebird is the first real car I purchased. It was a craig's list buy from an older gentleman who's wife demanded that it go. She was too obese to get in and out of it. Cost me 3000, though I've spent much much more in parts and upgrades. She needed all of the cooling system hoses replaced, a new Cat and Muffler, as well as some electrical work. Now she's in top-notch shape, and I baby her to an obsessive amount :D
I also own a '64 VW Beetle with a big engine, but it's been a constant project since I was 16, never really been able to drive it, but the day will come :)
My first car was my grandfather's 1980 old cutlass supreme. I drove that for about a year till all the miles I was driving was using alot of money in gas so I got my sister's 93 pontiac grand am. Drove that for nearly a year as well till I came home and found my 95 camaro sitting in the driveway instead in front of my sisters yard for sale by a family friend. My parents told me it my early graduation present and I was stoked.
As for the first car I ever "owned" though was a 2001 Mitsu Eclipse that I got for 1250 because it was a wreck. Needed a fender, airbags, front bumper cover and a headlight so I took the crumpled fender off, bought a set of cheap ebay headlights for it along with some HID's for the projector housing and stitched up the airbag covers so the dash and steering wheel looked decent. I really like that car, it was a 4 cyl 5sp and it was a blast to drive, first 5sp I ever owned and got 29mpg no matter how I drove it. 6 months later I traded that and my built honda 400ex for my trans am and have been driving it ever since.
Still got the camaro but its in severe disrepair. When I parked it I took the tires and put on my TA since they only had about 3k miles on them and after 224k miles it was in need of some TLC. Fuel pump was on its way out because it would surge on acceleration, tranny slipped in OD when more than slight throttle was applied, leaked coolant every few days...actually I think it was burning it because it was loosing coolant but it never left any spot anywhere I parked so I just assumed a head gasket. I keep telling myself im going to take the time and get her back on the road I just don't have anywhere near the funds to take on the project right now. It sadens me everytime I look at her just sittin there on blocks...by god I will get her road worthy again sometime. Had several people stop by to buy her off my hands but I just can't do it because of all the sentimental value and my GF now even bugs me about it now to no end but I will not give in.
92 grand am, had the the awesome when it wasnt blowing gaskets Quad 4. blew a head gasket on me, replaced it, and blew everything else a few weeks later LOL. hated and loved that car to death. sold it to my idiot step brother who fixed it and kept it for a few years, i moved into my first fbody at that time and been in them since. what a mistake that has turned out to be lol.
current car- 95 Trans am- bolt ons, parked and collecting dust. why? because **** it
00 dodge neon! great car for the 7 months that i had it. traded it in for my 01 camaro. which i still have, but have a few cars since getting my camaro also since she is the garage queen
1993 explorer eddie bauer - this thing was mint till a tree jumped out in front of it
1995 explorer limited - this was a. 8.5/10 until it caught fire (i guess Ford recalled it and this one never got fixed)
now i have my 1997 RS and in the meantime I have had an 89 caprice classic 305 RWD and a 1994 Z28 that a did a fair amount of work to.
So my truck is finally getting some work done, after 17 years, Oil pressure sensor went out and it’s located under the lower intake manifold. Have to...
