  • Free Ninja 500, but....

A guy at my job said I can have his '07 Ninja but there's no title. He quit paying on the lien a year and a half ago and the bank never came to get it. He's called them numerous times and they said they weren't going to get it because it wasn't worth the trouble and they were going to write it off.

I live in Texas and I'm trying to see what my options are for applying for title. I've heard of autoshops getting title of cars that are left in their shops too long. Any advice? I really want this bike, but I need a title otherwise its like riding on something stolen...

You could call TXDOT. Maybe you could get him to apply for a lost title?

Don't be an idiot... Finance companies dont just give money away.

Why dont YOU give them a call and say that you have possesion of that bike, I bet they wont say oh, just keep it...

If it sounds too good to be true it is, maybe if it was a 1987, but were talking about something a few years old.

FYI, this bikes used retail is currently over 3 grand,

Id say 3 grand is worth putting a repossession on the bike for the finance company.

I would listen to Matt, their not going to write off a 07' bike , like Matt said if it were a 87' yes they would because the bike would be worth less than a $1000. You have to watch people you could get a clean title and he could come back and say he never gave you the bike and your time and money would be wasted.

You'd be suprised at what banks write off. My '06 Mazda (worth $12k) was going to be repoed by the lender b/c I quit paying for it, (the engine needed replaced and was about $5k to fix). Anyway, I told them where it was and to come get and they said it wasn't worth their time and that they were going to write it off, which they sent me a letter saying so. I had to beg them to pick it up and this wasn't an old rusty car. Its an '06 Mazda. After calling and calling they came to get it even though they didn't want it.

Anyway, my point is, I believe my friend when he says the bank won't come for the bike. If my bank didn't want their $12,000 car back I can only imagine a bank not wanting an '07 bike with 4k miles on it.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I know in Texas there is a way to get a title for this situation but I don't know which form to fill out on the DMV's website.

I dunno, maybe I'll just make some calls or wait in the long a$$ line at the DMV....

You'd be surprised at how fast they'll haul you to jail for possesion of stolen property...

But, do what you wish

Dont you think your 'friend' would want to keep the bike, now that he doesnt have to pay for it since it was 'written off' and it surely fuccked his credit up?... Or at the least, sell it...

If it were me, Id take the bike, and make a go-cart with the motor / trans.... scrap or part out the rest on craigslist / ebay

Just because they wrote it off, doesn't mean they aren't going to keep coming after your friend for the balance. You can not transfer a title with a lien. It's not possible. You would have to get a release of lien from the lienholder. Fat chance of that happening.

What you do is buy a title and frame off ebay. Then swap it over. Problem solved

The question isn't about the balance. He knows he's still responsible for that. Its just a matter of trying to get the title b/c they have told him more than once they do not want the bike. To them its not worth the trouble of picking up. Of course he still owes them for it, they just dont think its worth getting.

I'm gonna see what the DMV says. I think my options might be a salvage title, abandoned vehicle, or a title bond. I'm still doing my research.

You can't do anything with out the lienholders release. If they still have a lien on it the dmv will not issue another one till they see proof that the lien has been settled.

The original bank probably sold the debt to another party. I would follow the paperwork and see if you could settle the debt for a fraction of what its worth, and get the lien removed.
