  • Need some car advice...

So, my 99 Audi got hit last week, and no it was not my fault. The car is still driveable but both doors need to be replaced, a rim, some trip, part of the rear panel, and of course paint and all that jazz. It isn't totalled and the insurance quote was roughly $4,000. These cars go for anywhere from 4-5k on craigslist right now. What do you think my best option is at this point?

    A. Get the car fixed with the insurance check, keep going on about my day.
    B. Pocket the $4,000 and sell the car as is (Maybe another $2k?).
    C. Pocket the $4,000 and part the car out (more time/effort)
    D. Take the $4,000 and get it fixed somewhere for cheaper and pocket the difference.

I have 2 cars so don't really need to keep it.. but can't decide what I want to do. Any advice?? Thanks!

    pocket the $4000...

then go to a junkyard buy the 2 doors and buy the rim off craigslist.

take it to a bodyshop and have them spray 1 side of the car?

So D..? the only problem is there is a little frame damage that I would not be able to repair in my garage so the doors wouldnt fit on correctly.

I can deal with not having a new rim. Its just a little scratched up.

I vote option B. Pocket the money and sell the car as is. If you wanted, you could get another A4 for that price, or look into something else. Although a clean S4 or Avant would be pretty cool, IMO.

I would just pocket the 4000 and part it out if you don't need it. Thats cash money son!

He would probably get more money/satisfaction out of selling it outright rather than going through the headache of parting it out for less money.

its easier to sell outright, but i think i could definitely get more money parting it out. i just dont think i have the time or patience to do it. (i know from past experience haha)

That depends if you have any emotional connection to your car. Otherwise I'd recommend "B".

                          Re: Need some car advice...

How is it not totaled if they are only selling for that or a little more on c-list? Don't insurance companies usually total cars when it's over say 75% of the value?

I'd do D if you are attached to the car, otherwise B.

Like said if you are not attached to the car than sell it as is and pocket the cash...turn around and buy either another or something else that is either a little nicer or get whatever for cheaper

Yes, normally its inbetween 66-70% of the cars value. But they dont go based on craigslist postings :)

I am going to talk to the insurance today and try to get them to total it. their original estimate did not include loss of value or loss of use.
