  • Tires...

I'm getting a set of tires tomorrow afternoon... I've read lots of different sizes that should go on. Some say 225/55/16, others 215/55/16, and the last 235/55/16. It is going on stock wheels. I'm wanting to get out the door for no more than 600, and I want good looking tires that perform well. The last guy I trusted gave me 245/60/16's and they look ridiculous. I hate it. Any inputs?

This is what it looks like now... I cleaned those up and shine'd them, usually they look brown...

Stock exhaust... nasty :P And the white on the back- no clue. Bottom of the door, idiot previous owner thought rattle can matched.. the spot on the front is glare from a crappy camera.

    Re: Tires...

Nice Camaro! I love the 4th gen.

I bought a set of 4 tires last year for about $550. So far they have been great. I haven't driven the car in rain though, so I don't know about wet traction. I got the BF Goodrich Traction T/A in P235 55R16 size. My car is a 2001 Firebird. I special-ordered the car from the dealership and got the optional wider tires. I think the standard tires on a V6 Firebird are 215's or 225's.

The thing I find unique about the Goodrich tires is that they don't have those ridges on the sidewalls like every other brand. The sidewalls have a nice smooth appearance.

I took a picture but it doesn't look like you can see the tire very well. I guess the white color causes glare, so the camera doesn't pick up detail in the darker areas.

    Here's my car freshly Zaino'ed.

maybe he doesn't like how they look? I have 245's on my 3.8; they look ok to me.

Docta, have you checked tire rack or a local discount tire for better deals?

Its the tire themselves. Not the size. I like the wider tire. I just got these for free from a friend that pulled them off a Jag that had been sitting for a while, they look nasty. And I really don't like that they're 245/60... I would be happy with some 245/55s better. They feel too tall...

I did that, and my brakes acted up really bad. Like it felt as though ABS would kick in on dry pavement. But it wasn't ABS. Really weird. Just saying, from my experience, wouldn't recommend it.

              Re: Tires...

Well thats your problem right there, 245/60r16 is way too tall. You can fit a bunch of sizes though 215/60r16, 225/60r16, 225/55r16, 235/55r16, 245/50r16, and 255/50r16. There is loads of tires for 245/50r16, and as far as I know there is only a couple options for 255/50r16 BFG G-force sports and some drag radials. I only go with the skinnier options when I'm looking for my snow tires.

whatever you do, DONT get bfg tires, they suck.

i had the traction t/a's on my car and they have almost killed me numerous times.

                  Re: Tires...

Theres nothing wrong with BFG G force tires , I run them now and they hook better than 315/35/17 Sumuttos, maybe they're a summer tire or something but they get more traction than most I have had through 15 years of owning my car. But I also have jut about every suspension mod including a UMI tunnel mount TQ arm which plants the rear greatly. I always liked 245/50/16 or 255/50/16 when I had 16's, for brand the best bang for the buck is Kuhmo tires they look good and have a great tread pattern.

                    Re: Tires...

I'll agree on the Traction T/As being junk, they were on my Camaro when I bought it. I don't agree with all BFGs being junk though, the G-Force Sport, SuperSports, KD, and KDW are all pretty good. Now I would say get the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s but they're out of your price range. What kind of driving do you plan on doing though helps determine what tires your gonna want.

Something in a nice white wall would look real slick!

                        Re: Tires...

Stock size is 235/55/16 and stock size on the Z28's is 245/50/16. Don't wander far from stock size if at all to keep problems to a minimum. Many people, myself included go to the Z28 stock size, 245/50/16, which is the best idea imo. There are all kinds of options from 60 bucks a tire to 200 and beyond. I had 245/50/16 Bridgestone Potenza G009 and was very satisfied with them until I switched to my current 275s. The Potenza's were about 140 a tire.

I'd also agree that Kuhmo is a nice bet. I have positive things to say about the Ecsta ASX's, but I can't speak from experience about the Ecsta AST's which are a bit cheaper.
