    Re: Which engine

Agreed on both things, rear ends are cheap and fairly easy to swap and we did run into a couple issues on our Lt1 swap. We had to override the fuel pump relay because for some unknown reason the computer wouldnt send it power. Easy enough though, just threw a switch in its place and has worked out fine. What issues have you had with your swap though?

I didn't try to make mine streetable. Few wiring issues, bad ebcm, fuel pressure issues, fuel pump issues. Should be flawless this season after I get another trans in it.

Ah ok, I still have alot to do for this coming season as well mainly just tires and opti.

Now for the OP this is in your budget:

He has the whole car for 2k or you could get just the rear.

If I was in your shoes, get it driving, sell it, buy a cheap LS1 and have no headaches. Swap cars tend to be finnicky, which makes me pretty grateful to not have to rely on it for transportation.
swap cars are very finiky, you are definetly better buying v8 from the start....but silly how? you can do heads/cam for under/about 2 grand....do a nice custom cam, and a set of heads and I bet you can nail off very low 13's, or high 12's...thats faster than a stock lt1 and most stock ls1's...unless people gut them to the point that you have.

by the time you get a motor/trans/new k frame/ wiring harness/ and suspension to support the new heavier engine...I bet you"ll be over $2,000 and still only have a stock motor...

Sigh. No. You can not run high 12's, bottom 13's N/A in a V6 for $2k. IMPOSSIBLE.

No? What about Lnortons setup on the other forum...runs 12.3 NA...did it cam only...granted, that cam isn't the most streetable, but you can find a nice medium between that setup and run 12's I gurantee. Cost you 1000 or so for cam and all needed parts, then sink another 1000 into a nice set of heads, or even do gears/converter (that'll put you just over 1000$ for gears and a verter)...lnorton ran 12.3 on stock heads to fwiw..its not impossible with a custom setup...impossible with an off the shelf setup yes...

Guy, you're fighting a losing battle. There is NO way possible to run a 12.ANYTHING with $2k in a V6 N/A. Even completely gutted to ****, with a magic custom cam.

I almost wish I had no mods done to my car yet and know what I know now....just to prove it... and regardless 13.xx is faster than an LT motor...

Lol, no way LNorton built that Stock Eliminator class car for anywhere near $2k.

didnt say that....his suspension mods are probably worth more than that...but he also ran 12.3...I think you can run a 12.9 with 2grand though...heck there are guys that have ran mid 13s on nothing more than 4.10s, weight reduction and tuning... the setup would need a lot of thought and be highly custom no doubt...but I know it's possible.

and who says you have to stay N/A...I mentioned N/A but how about a cam and nitrous?? thats under 2,000$ and will net you 12's in a breeze...

Are you delusional? You just posted JNorton as your reference stating that you could get a car N/A into the 12's for under $2k. I told you that you're COMPLETELY WRONG, and you backpedal. Also, I can only think of ONE person that went into the 13's with a stock motor, that being Little G. That car was beyond gutted with holes cut in it, not a typical street car. Don't even get me started that with $2k, most people on this board couldn't get out of the 15's, even if the track was down hill.

Awesome. I'll put a cam, nitrous and an LT1 in a car for under $2k, and go well into the 11's. Dur. No replacement for displacement.

of course there is no replacement for displacement...but spend that $2k after your already $2k swap, plus headaches and you're at $4,000 minimum....for that kinda money you mine as well just run the cartuning turbo kit on the v6 and make 400rwhp and run 11's...cartuning kit is $5,000, and comes with everything...bolt it on and dont have any headaches to worry about...use basic handtools to put it in to...

don't get me wrong, v8's will always make more power with the same mods, but if you are going to go that route, dont bother wasting money swapping to a v8 and then modding...buy the v8 outright...all Im saying is the money it will cost you to swap in a stock v8 into a v6 car, you could take that swap money and put it into mods, and be faster than you would otherwise be with just that stock swapped motor dropped in...follow what I'm saying?

plenty got out of the 15s without many mods though (an no where close to $2k). my v6 ran 14.8 first time down the track and all i had was exhaust and a tune.

LETZRIDE: bottom line is: its cheaper to go faster in a v8 than v6. however you want to work that out (mods, swaps, new car, etc) is up to you..

I wouldn't say plenty. I did it with a muffler and an intake, Magnus didn't with out a bunch of mods, Camaro_Zach didn't without a bunch of mods, Epic didn't ever I don't think, Tease didn't without a bunch of mods, and plenty more never even came close. For every 1 person that made it into the 14's, literally hundreds more didn't. Did your car come with 3.42's?
