My wife went from an '02 Cavalier to an '07 Civic Si about six months ago and we absolutely love the car and have had 0 problems! Trading in my LaCrosse helped us to close the deal. So... I have been driving my Camaro and had a couple of junkers since then to get by. It's just time for me to buy a decent, newer car.
The Camaro isn't going anywhere, it will be retired back to weekend driving status.
Because if I'm going to spend $10-15k for a car, it's going to be a car that is safe, reliable and holds a good resale value. At least two of the things I mentioned can't be had from buying a GM car. Thats my opinion.
My LaCrosse had a few problems along the way and her Cavalier was a true piece of crap. Not to mention all of the problems my Camaro has, the Camaro before that and the Firebird before that one. I had an '01 Buick Century a couple of years ago and even that car was garbage. I thought about a new 2010 Camaro, but even used base models with an automatic and steel rims are still over $21,000, I find that insane, overpriced and uncalled for, especially when I can buy a used 2010 Mustang Coupe for $16,000.
In my opinion, GM has a long way to go and they are overpriced for what they are.

Ummm, you went and bought a car that's 5 years newer. No duh you'll like it better. Car models continue to improve with time. Not to deminish the Cavalier (I had a Sunbird at one time and loved it) but the Cav is the most basic real GM car that GM offers (not counting the Sukzukies or Toytota's that get rebadged). Even my Sunbird shared the same frame as the Cav's but had better shocks, better sound dedening, better engine, it was night and day from the Cavalier my buddie had.
I'd look at a new Malibu, they are nice but still retain reasonably firm handling and I absolutely love my 2000 Impala LS (but it might be a bit too cooshie for your liking), year 2000, 140,000 and still no real problems. Malibu's are pretty nice IMHO.

I am not a fan of the newer Malibu. I have looked at several '07-10 Impala's but it's still a basic 4 door car. The Accord will have a higher resale value than the Impala when it comes time to ditch it.
I have to agree with him on this one. If I were to buy another car and had the money I would be getting a honda or a nissan. Don't get me wrong, I love the big three since they are the only vehicles still headquartered in the US reliability sucks, yup I said it...sucks. In the year I worked at as a mechanic at a large 5 bay shop after high school I worked on my fair share of the big three vehicles as well as toyota and lexus and a handful of nissans but I cannot recall working or seeing a single Honda or Acura come in for anything other than tires, brakes, or oil changes. They just simply hold up to the rigors of daily commute driving and keep going.
Yes they are expensive but they hold their resale value because they last and are reliable as well.
If you like the Honda go for it , noone here can tell you what you want, but I did buy a chevy 08" Silverado just becuase of I liked it and the price was great for what it had on it as options.
08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
96' Camaro M5 to A4 conversion, alot of mods . GT35R Turbo full suspension. Built engine
thats the only reason i can think of for paying so much thats so blah
I want a 4 door, full size sedan that gets around 30 mpg. The Impala is very "blah" as well.
I care about reliability, quality, safety and value from a daily driver. I honestly don't care how "blah" it is. If I did, my last daily driver wouldn't have been a Buick.
