All my muscles hurt. This is half way through the project. By Sunday night there was ony about 18 inches to go to finish the room. But I was tired and didn't want to make mistakes....
I have an even larger room to do, and then all of upstairs hallways. That will eliminate carpet on the first floor, and only leave carpet in the bedrooms. But they will be done in hardwood soon too. Oh boy, I can hardly wait....:D
I was helping a buddy install wood flooring friday night. Few too many adult beverages led to me having a really sore hand after I whacked the heck out of it with a mallet. It's much easier if you have 4 guys doing it.
Yeah, its rewarding, saves a lot of money, but sure does take its toll on you!!
I can't even think about drinking until after knocking off for the day.... can't afford the mistakes. After trying to remove one board that was nailed down by mistake, I quickly realized this stuff does not come up easy. Not easy at all...
Think I will skip tonight and start fresh tomorrow night after work.
Started the Living Room this weekend. Its a bit bigger at 14 x 16. Took a while to empty the room out. Put everything in the diningroom (packed like sardines). Started the first two rows. They are so close to the wall, that the nail gun can't be used, so they are glued to the subfloor with construction adhesive and pre-drilled for finishing nails. Took about half a day to clear the room, screw down half the floor (precautionary measure) and set the first two rows. To make the whole job harder, the first two rows start under a heat register like the far side of the last pic above.
Wait, Is that a V6 or V8? 1990 Chevrolet C-K 1500 series 4.3L .. 5spd
1994 JDM Euno Roadster 1.8L 5spd Bolt Ons.. etc 2000 Camaro 3.8L Auto Bolt Ons..etc
Thanks for the nice comments! Putting down the hardwood in the living room and dining room gets rid of the last wall-to-wall carpet on the first floor. Now the first floor is either tiles or hardwood. Believe me, its so much easier to keep clean, and always looks good. The carpets get worn and crappy looking, have to rent carpet cleaners about twice a year, and not to mention all the junk they harbor you can't see!
Now we use small area carpets that are easy to toss every few years when they show wear. Makes life easier.
A surprise was that the floor is so much more rigid than it was with carpet. Apparently the hardwood spreads the load around better than just the 3/4" sub floor did.
