I dunno, these guys are already charging $130/hour for labour. I guess Im just more pissed because every shop I've ever gone to/dealt with has never charged the diagnostic fee when given the ok to fix the vehicle. Again, I didnt ask him what was wrong with the vehicle...I told him what was wrong and I told him to fix it...

    Oh well...
If you brought it in there and was like.. This needs changed. They really shouldn't be doing any diagnostic work. That is definitely not cool and I wouldn't pay it.

2ndly.. The biggest problems all of us will have with shops is that we know what it takes to work on cars and that's always gonna put a damper on our day to pay someone else for labor. I hate the idea of it myself..

3rdly.. I'm working f'n 3rd shift here at our shop to try and train these guys just to do the work correctly since their supervisor apparently gave up on his job and doesn't give a **** what his guys do. I have never seen such lazy helpless *******s. So ya never know which mechanics they have working on the car.. I have to take away time from the jobs these guys do cause we can't bill them more than flat rate, even though they take 2 hours to change an easy air valve on a trailer when it should actually take them less than half an hour.

Yes, this is very true to today's time. Since your grandma took it there instead of having you fix it is wrong alright, but hopefully next time.

My brother wanted to get the dull, cloudiness out of his headlights and the shop was charging him $75. It's a good thing he asked me about this first and told him that they were ripping him off. I took a 2000 grit and a rubbing compound and I cleared the cloudiness out of his headlights. And it only took me 10 mins.

Sorry to hear. That seems very pricey.

You have to remember though, prices will be a bit higher here vs. American shop prices due to the higher volume... I know that is true here. Not sure if that is the case up where you are.

I could've, but she gets too scared and doesn't trust me even though I rebuilt both my motors in her garage...she was scared when I boosted the car lol.

It is more than just the $80

I did go over it with them and asked how necessary it was...they brushed me off...then I started to ***** about it and tell them it was poor customer service and they just didnt even answer me anymore...and I wasn't even vulgar...I kept my cool even after a nightshift lol...so then my finger slipped lol...f*ck em

FYI ANYONE IN THE TORONTO AREA COCHRANE AUTOMOTIVE ON CHAUNCEY IS A JOKE

these guys were the same retards that when I ended up stripping my brake bleeder valve I went to them "specialists in gm cars and brakes" (and they have their own parts store) and I asked them if I could buy a bleeder valve, or if they had contacts with a company I could order one from...they brushed me aside then and told me it didn't exist tough luck...when I asked them what they did if they lost/broke/stripped one on a customers car they replied "we tell our customers to go buy a new car"

Oh ya, I guess I should mention that my exhaust guy of all people managed to get me one...I think it was from doorman or something like that...ya, the exhaust shop...go figure eh? Guy doesn't even touch brakes....

If it makes you feel better I had to rent a car for 5 days and pay $850 for a dealer to change a fuel pump on a 2000 cavalier.

Now that is getting screwed.... It was more because I *****ed on the time frame. But I did get some money back. Especially since I told them it was a fuel problem likely the pump the day I brought it in.

Sucks when you are starting a new job, house hunting, and your car breaks down as you live out of a hotel, 500 miles from home.

                  Re: Am I over-reacting?

I think your taking it pretty well. I would be incredibly pissed. Like said before, there are places all over that test your charging system for free and will replace the batt for free.

And your G-ma not letting you do it would piss me off too. Just like my granfather asking me about his computer. He would ask and I would give my answer. He would reply; well this other guy said it was this. Then WTF did you ask me for? You have my opinion and fix. Listen to me or them, f' off...
