  • What do you usually leave for tips?

    http://www.thepostgame.com/blog/dish...ghtwad-tippers

Just read that article and it got me wondering, what do you all usually leave as a tip? What's the most you've left someone?

For me, it really depends, I usually go to a lot of the same places and the girls know me. No not strip clubs I just tend to go to establishments with cute girls :naughty: So for those places I have left tips well over $100 before on a $30-$40 tab. I'm not loaded, far from it, but why not it's only money. I just can't understand having the kind of money those celebs have and not taking care of a server. It's a drop in the bucket for them.

If the service is O.K 15% and if they were great 20-30%.

Always 20%. I usually take the total and put the decimal point 1 point to the left. Then multiply by two.

      So total was $45. tip will be $4.5x 2 = $9. I start at 20%. I don't think I ever left 15%.

Re: What do you usually leave for tips?

20% if you frequent this place for succulent & delicious food and she's a hottie.

15% if the service was ok because she forgot some condiment or extra napkins.

10% if you're never gonna see that person ever again.

Whenever I specify NO cheese in my burgers and this happens to me very often, I get nauseous after lift the bun and see a nasty slab of cheese in my burger. So I leave absolutely nothing because...

        A) She was too busy or stressed out. I know you live on tips so make an effort to do it right the first time ok? Harsh? I don't think so, you chose this profession knowing youre gonna multiply each table times how many hours you want to overlap into the next shift and make a bundle at the end of the day especially on Friday and Saturday nights when the drunk, famished and rowdy people roll in.

        B) The cook cannot read english or her chicken scratch scribble. Running a successful and decent restaurant means it's gonna be a TEAM effort. Most of the time the tips are shared amongst servers and cooks. Let them fight it out.

Beware of the Cash Only Eatery, they do exist. I barely carry any cash and prefer to pay by Mastercard so I can write in the tip but they don't use that style of transaction because some percentage of their gross sales go to credit card companies. Maybe I should inconvience myself a trip to a nearby ATM to print out a crisp $100 bill to break and give my server a healthy tip but I rather throw it on my Mastercard so I can see my bill at the end of the month where my money goes. To me it's all about leaving the dinner table with a good experience.

Just ending my rant because earlier tonight I found mayonnaise on my chicken cutlet I repeatedly specified to omit. No tip lol.

... Can't afford to go places that have waitresses. Yayyy college life. Tonight, I had Pop-tarts, and water.

But when I lived with my parents, it was 15% is they were garbage, 30% if they were really over-the-top, or if we knew them. I only know that because my parents always had me figure it for them..

I'm cheap as hell; I clean my mess up with napkins and **** after I'm done eating so they don't have to do a lot when we leave.

But my GF makes me tip, so usually 15%.

I used to work at Sonic as a carhop/cook/drink maker/everything and I get tipped ****, this is my way of revenge I guess. I'm on a college kid budget as well.

Re: What do you usually leave for tips?

The most I've ever tipped was probably only $10, but that was also on a fairly cheap meal at Steak & Shake ($15-20). The reason for a 50+% tip? The burger was made to perfection, it literally looked just like the burgers you see in the pictures on the menu or TV commercials. I even made it a point to personally compliment the cook that made it.

But next time I went in several weeks later, I got a burger that everything was falling out of and had mayo on it when I specifically ask for NO mayo. The manager, after noticing my sour mood due to the meal, even had the indecency to ask, "would you like me to do something about it? Maybe make on of your drinks free?" I told him make my whole meal free, and don't ask if I want you to do something about it, volunteer to do something about it instead. It's been quite a few months since then and I haven't gone back..

Re: What do you usually leave for tips?

If I go thirsty (ie. Not checking in for refills on an empty cup) I leave a crap tip. Also, if I see you standing there talking to other servers/hostess gossiping instead of checking on customers like myself I leave a crap tip (biggest pet peeve). At my job we are focused on customer service and it kills me when I get treated like **** at places when I work 40+ hours a week making people satisfied for my money. Otherwise people get 20% from me, they don't even have to be pretty ;)

The wife used to be a server so she always calculates the tip from 0-25%.

I always leave cash to stiff the IRS, usually $2 bills.

Wow, I'm really surprised that no one leaves large tips, idk maybe I'm a sucker lol. I know if I'm a repeat customer somewhere and I leave a good tip then the next time I go in I can count on a cold beer at my table before I sit down and them telling me what is and isn't good that night.

This is true, at the local dive bar I always tip at least a $1/beer. I am easily the biggest tipper there, and I can always count on them stocking my favorite obscure beers.
