most hurricane deaths do not happen in the storm... they happen from people being stupid... touching live powerlines, heart attack doing yardwork, running a generator in their living room, etc....
Generator in the living room, that's a Darwin award right there.
almost willing to bet someone will die of carbon monoxide poisoning from this strorm...
Other hurricane tips... buy cheap soda, dump it, fill with tap water, freeze, and fill fridge and freezer with them. Now you have block ice keeping fridge/freezer cold, and as they thaw, you get ice cold water to drink. And they don't leak like bags of ice will.
Put candles in a turkey pan, it helps refract the light a bit. Be careful it can get hot, I had like 5-6 freestanding cancles in one, actually got hot enought to burn the counter. It was ok, it was an apartment and I put a "welcome to the apartment" flier on top of it when I moved and I guessed they didn't look under it cuz I never got dinged on it.
-Propane.... and hit up grociery stores without generators right before the storm hits, they will try and dump all their meats and perishables for cheap. Might as well eat some kickass steaks on the grill.
-Extra cash is just a given
-Gas. gas. gas.... i doubt most gas stations up htere have generators, so even if there is no gas shortage which there usually is, they can't pump any now.
-Power inverter, I have had one for years, works great. Allows you to charge any of your non car adpater stuff if you need it. Ipod, recharbable batteries, phone, nintendo DS, etc...
-Radio with batteries, gets boring sitting in the dark in the heat.
Not much going on, replaced my Kenwood double din stereo with a Pioneer double din, the Kenwood had problems. Then replaced my power inverter for my reverse...
