  • Considering selling the SLP GT

Just considering, not really sure if I'm going to or not!

I've got an '02 SLP Firebird GT with ~83k on it. Right now it has OBX stainless headers, 2-1/2 Hi-Flow Cat, 2-1/2 SLP Loudmouth II muffler dumped before the rear axle. My intentions were to do a true dual with the hi-flow cats and SLP mufflers but ran out of time before a vacation and just left it like that and haven't gotten around to finishing it.

If I were to sell, I would be putting the stock manifolds and exhaust back on, which from what I've been told is the stock LS1 exhaust. I'd like to keep the car, but I don't want to do a whole lot of custom work to it since it's potentially a collector car being that SLP GT's are so rare. I've heard only 78 were made in '02, but don't quote me on it, SLP has said they didn't keep records. It does have the SLP sticker in the door to prove it though.

Outside I'd consider it to be in good condition, only a couple little dings and paint chips. And Inside to be in really good condition. Clean with very few flaws. Car has never seen the winter and has ZERO rust on it. I'd be looking for around $6500 for it, sound fair?

Nice car... I think 6500 is sorta steep for a v6 fbody. GLWS

According to KBB the value of your car including the GT package:

      Excellent Condition $7,515
      Good Condition $7,065
      Fair Condition $6,315

So 6500 sounds pretty reseable but it would be a hard sell.

Why not hold on to it, keep it stock and pick up another f-body to mod and play around with?

Money. LOL. I would LOVE to be able to do that. And really, I'm leaning more towards keeping it, and doing mods that can easily be returned to stock (and keeping all the stock parts of course). Reason for considering a sale is basically I could sell it for around $6k, use half of it to finish paying off the loan and the other half to pick up a decent Firebird just like it. The financial burden would be nearly completely erased by doing that as I would no longer have the car loan, plus insurance would drop because it would be paid for and wouldn't require full coverage. But at the same time, I've paid for half the loan in the first year of a 4-year deal so far, so I'm not tooo strapped for cash. It's a tough battle I'm fighting...

I don't think you'll ever find a nicer bird than yours, especially with an SLP package. I say just struggle for now and reap the benefits later.

I regret getting rid of my 89 GTA with a 350 TPI back then for the same reason. But I was young and money was always an issue, even so it wasn't like I need to sell it that bad.

This ^. Especially it being a GT SLP bird. But I totally understand the money situation.

Yea..I'm pretty sure I'm keeping it. It's turned into one of those things that I know I would regret the moment I hand the keys over. If I stay on par with this first year of payments, then by this time next year it should be paid off. Plus I just bought a T/A hatch that I'm picking up tomorrow and already talked to somebody about duplicating the stripes to fit the new hatch/wing..

                      sell firebird for 5k.

buy ls1 z28 with low miles for 7k.

Best decision ull ever make. Trust me, thats what i did. I had so much time into my bird, and i honestly never think about anymore.

Craigslist.. put it at a price you are willing to budge on some.

I put my 99 V6 with bolt-ons on craigslist for 3500 and got 3000 cash. My car had 96k miles and had a rod knocking or rod bearing gone. I was shocked when I got the first call 5 minutes after posting. 3 days later it sold.

Post up your best pics and give a decent description and it will move.

If you're just wanting to sell it to pay off the loan and get another, then I think you should keep it. You might be able to sell it for what you're wanting but won't be able to pick up something nearly that clean for half the price.

Pay off the loan and keep it!

Then once you get the title then go surf around on craigslist for the next car.
