So when my wife and I want to get out of the house, we really like to hit the bars, or mostly bar & grills.

However, ever since Ohio passed this stupid smoking ban its like parents think that means every bar is a "family bar." It seems like any bar, at any time is off limits to having kids running around the bar, or even sitting at the bar... What the hell is wrong with parents...

Morale of the story: I'm all for health benefits of a smoke-free environment, but if your state wants to go smoke-free - - Vote No, if just for the kids.

In Florida it's only smoke free if you serve food or x percent of your sales are food I believe. Nothing like taking your kid to a bar. The best thing I saw was at a St. Patrick's day block party where they were giving shot glasses to the kids.

Here, a bar and grill is usually a family oriented place. It just means they also serve alcohol bev. along with meals. They are usually smoke free.

If you want a real bar just go to a real bar.

But you know, my aunt has been working a bar for 15 years and she developed emphasyma. She's not even a smoker.

As a smoker myself, and coming from me, I have no pity for your aunt. If she knew smoking and second hand smoke was bad, she wouldn't have been there for 15 years. Smoking in public used to be fine, now I have a hard time smoking on a construction site. I have to be 25' away from the GATE of the site, and the fence line is 100' away from the building. What about smokers rights?

It's that way in the military now. Myself, I don't smoke, but if you want to great. They now make people leave the motor pool, 50 feet from the gate, or 50 feet from any government building. Its getting kinda ridiculous, and now on my post you cant walk and smoke anymore.

I didn't ask for pity and yes it was her choice. It was hard for her to quit because she loves the social atmosphere and the tips.

Not exactly true. Most soldiers, including myself, care about their health. You need to be physically and mentally healthy to stay in.

been that way for years over here now...it cleans up the atmosphere inside and lets people breathe easier...you want to smoke? go outside on the patio...no big deal really...

bar and grilles are family oriented, but usually the bar section is more segregated from the seating area...I honestly haven't really ever seen kids running around the bars around here.

Secondly, over here I believe after 11pm (if its not 11pm it's 9pm) no one under 19 is even allowed in the bars.

Arbitrary and unilateral smoking bans are silly. If I as an adult choose to go to an establishment that allows smoking, that's my decision. I know the consequences. I'm tired of this nanny state bs. Smoking bans do have a place however. I'm not saying smoking should be allowed in a hospital, office, or anywhere children could be affected. A bar is a completely different story. It should be left up to the business owner, not whiny complainers. Extolling the virtues of 'clean air' doesn't carry much weight when you're attempting to give your self Cirrohsis.

Not trying to speak for Atrium, but I don't believe he meant how you perceived it. I'm thinking he meant that if you're willing to die for your country, you should be able to enjoy a legal substance.
