    Re: I want YOUR opinion

If you want a summer only tire, and aren't too concerned about mileage, this would probably be my first choice. Only available in a 265/40/17, but the size difference is almost nothing, and the traction difference will more than make up for the slightly smaller size. I see these a lot on cars at at auto-crosses and track days, and one guy I know actually uses them as rain tires on his race car. They are similar to the Bridgestone RE-11s and the Hankook RS-3s, neither of which are made in 275/17 (or even 265).

I have a friend that swears Kumhos harden after a while and then you eventually lose that sticky grip therefore your rear end gets all squirrely on ya.

Extended parking will cause flat spots on tires and hardening may occur on any tire due to leaving it in direct sunlight, you'll have to park it indoors. Invest in a decent tire for sure.

This past summer I thrashed my Nittos on my '92 Z28 and LOVE them!

I think this is true of any of the extreme performance tires (RE-11s, RS-3s, Direzzas, etc). I had (still have actually) a set of the older Hankook RS-2s I bought a couple of years back to use as autocross/track day tires on the Camaro, that now have about as much traction as a highway truck tire. I "saved" them for only those purposes, but only got to do 2-3 track days and a couple of autocrosses up to this year. I put them on to do a track day in early Oct this year, and proceeded to lock up and flat spot the RF tire on my very first hot lap. They just had no grip left.

The moral here is, use them or lose them. The next set (of perrformance tires) I get will go on the car in the spring, and stay on the car until winter. Then, if I'm still driving the car year round, I'll switch to the outstanding Sumitomo HTR A/S P01s I have on there now.

My bald kuhmos on my '89 and very tq'y 350 tpi still get pretty good traction despite sitting for years along with a 3.70 gear in the back. Seem like good tires to me.

The Miata crowd goes nuts for those. I wish they have 275...
