What kind of Oil and oil filter brand is everybody here using?

Not really related, but funny and true... Airplanes can gain a couple knots of cruise speed after a fresh wax. ;)

I run Mobil 1 5w30 and acdelco filter.

Since I work in the oil change market, Robert has got it 100% correct. A typical 3000 mile car can go 5k on synthetic. And filters really do make a world of difference. I get to see what comes out of cars on a daily basis and you really can tell a conventional from a synthetic just by draining it. And since our base oil is HORRID and our best is better than a Mobil, it changes with the car. Synthetics are amazing stuff, but that doesn't mean go 15k on an oil change. Yes it happens. And probably the coolest thing I've seen there, is either the Bentley GTC or the C6 Z06s that have 2 drain plugs.

I'm interested to hear your opinion on cars like porsche cayennes and such, which have very high performance engines, and the porsche recommended interval is a year. Also, the RP that I use in my car is rated to 12k or a year.

They would never flat out be a year, it would be at most a year or xxxxx miles.

If you drive 50,000 miles in a year I sure as hell hope you change your oil more than once.

I never take the risk personally...I use the signature series 5w30 oil in my camaro and I still change it every 3,000miles

Same with the filter.

^^My bad, their website lists 10k or 1 year. I'm looking for the article about the police cruiser that went 100k before an oil change (they changed the filter) and they replaced any burn off. I personally change mine twice a year, usually about 2k miles on the changes since the car just doesn't get driven much, but I think it is impressive to see oil technology changing.

ya, you can do that if you perform an oil analysis...it will tell you what is going on in your engine and if the oil is breaking down....Personally if you are going to change the filter, I dont see why you can't spend 5 more minutes and 25$ more and change the oil all together....but some people like to penny pinch I guess

BMW's and Benz can take 8-10 quarts of oil depending on the type of engine: V6 and V8 and it is highly recommended that Syn. to be used.

These cars like the one I have has a sensor that will tell you when to change oil. I think mine went to 8k or 10k before that light went on.

I think it is so that if the engine/oil pan is used in a different application you will have access to at least one plug, or it could have something to do with draining the system completely and efficiently. I'm sure they didn't just do it for sh*ts and giggles.

Dirty or uncovered paint can cause additional friction that can slow it down. Wax also goes on topside and bottom side of the body.

I only have 1 drain plug on mine, but the newer models are coming out with 2.

I think it's because 8-10 quarts would take too much time to drain. Hench, I leave mine draining for like 15-20 mins. even then it's still leaking. And I also think it's for draining it completely with very little residue left behind.
