Rant.
I went to change the oil in my 2008 gti for the first time. Got amsoil with a mann filter. These cars have a canister oil filter housing with a paper filter inside which you gotta change. Went to remove the canister and it seems the dealership had over tightened the canister, and its made of plastic. Well, I endes up breaking the plastic nut on it... why would they make it out of plastic is beyond me... but at least after some research I found a company makes billet aluminum ones for that specific reason...here's a pic if anyone cares.

Not only German! I worked on a buddy's 2007 Pontiac G5 and changed the oil, it also is made out of plastic with the filter connected to the bottom of it. I heard creaking on the way out and snapping on the way in. I had to torque it myself because my torque wrench wouldn't go to such a small increment (18ft lbs I think it was). Luckily didn't break though.

Benz and BMW's are like that too. Atleast I only change it once every 10k or when the light goes on.

Both my old Cavalier and my 2010 Equinox have that canister oil filter. Using the right low-profile socket, I think this feature is one of the best innovations I've seen for oil changes. :tup:

The technology is fine imo...its the fact that they're made of plastic that angers me. Thank you aftermarket lol

you guys sound like your using the wrong tool for that....yea that nut is plastic and it will break...i work at a shop and we use this...find the right size..throw it on top...get a 3/8's ratchet and it will come off with ease...the dealers tighten it this way also
