Re: that was fun
1999 - SGS (Second Gear Start) became standard on all automatic cars as a type of traction-control-like system. It starts the transmission in second gear instead of first to help prevent wheel spin on slippery surfaces. It does hurt the transmission (it heats the fluid more because the torque converter is slipping more) and offers no benefit during everyday driving.
With that said they did replace it with real traction control at some point just not 100% sure on what following year.Daily: '02 Black Yukon Denali
Toy: '06 Torrid Red GTO
Gone: Powerdyned '02 Pewter Camaro
Gone: '07 Charcoal Yamaha R6
Gone: Ex-wife, lol

Re: that was fun
all 99+ cars have second gear start. If you dont have the button for it, manually put your car into '2'. It will hardlt move forward on idle and feel like a dog outta the hole.
TCS on a v6 is NOT needed at all.

Re: that was fun
97 has SGS. No TCS, don't see why TCS is even necessary at all on a stock V6....In America's Hat!
1997 Camaro 30th 'vert... GT1 cam/C6 wheels/Flowmaster/HIDs/Viper 2 way alarm/Alpine audio mods up the wazoo
2005 Equinox LT... mostly stock daily/Thule snowsports roof system/sound + interior mods

I have ASR, which is traction control, on my '02. I have had it help me out plenty of times. Though most of the time I turn it off.Daily: '02 Black Yukon Denali
