  • Need some serious advice!

    Long story short...
I took my 2008 Volkswagen GTI to a dealership to have an oil leak looked at. The car is under warranty... They said it was the oil filter housing, replaced it, and sent me on my way...this was yesterday.

Today. I go start the car, let it run in the driveway to warm up, and I go inside. Come out and start to drive away, i get about 1/4 mile down the road and I start to hear a clunking sound... Then the car starts beeping really loud. I immediately shut off engine and look under the car and see oil dripping. I checked the oil level and it wasn't even on the dipstick! So I have it towed to the dealer, and won't know anything until monday. I think it ruined the engine honestly. You can't run a car without oil for very long, especially a forced induction car like that one.

What would you guys do? It is clearly their fault, and I think they're going to try to fix the leak, fill it with oil, and try to send me on my merry way. Am I wrong for thinking I should et a new engine? What do you guys think?

If you can talk with the regional service manager yourself the odds will go up in you favour.

If there are no imediate noises or issues how would I be able to tell if it is even slightly damaged? It's an expensive car and right now I hate it...

With Hyundai's 100k warranty they'll replace the whole drivetrain before they give it back to you. I say this because my family experienced the same thing with their Santa Fe. I don't know how VW honor theirs.

                    Re: Need some serious advice!

Thats the thing silverbird... That incident alone could have added "50,000 miles" to the engine in terms of wear... Thats why I am so pissed. I will see what they say tomorrow!
