  • Ever have a hit and run happen to you?

Yesterday my girlfriend dropped me off at work in my camaro and went home. Didn't drive it anymore till I got home and picked it up. When I got where I was going I noticed a big black and brown paint scuff on my rear bumper, over my rear license plate and and 2 decent size chips in the paint. I'm furious right now, and I can't do anything about it. I have the worst luck.

Dude, happened to both of my camaros. I know how you feel. My job is on fedex grounds so I have to park in the same lot as the package handlers and van drivers and they don't give a ****!! It makes me want to get a monster truck.

When I was in high school I came out one afternoon after class to find a white paint streak from the rear marker light to the front wheel. Fortunately it all came off with some scrubbing and didn't do any damage. I got lucky that time.

Had someone clip my camaro once. He was turning around in front of it and clipped it and drove off. I was sitting inside the car at the time, so I had to chase the guy down. Pulled in front of him in traffic and forced him to stop (his other option was driving into the curb.) Confronted the guy, he claimed he didn't hit my car. I was like "your car has a mark on it right there", he's like "it was already there". So I tell him to pull into the parking lot so we can figure this out.

Sure enough the guy takes off again. I followed him around for a while until he gave up and drove home. Followed him in so he couldn't get out and called police non-emergency to have them come get him. I normally don't like dealing with the police, but didn't really see any other choice. He ended up having insurance and everything, but I guess he was heavily medicated and claimed he freaked out.

had a drunk guy hit me once on a country road, i had to chase him to his house and call the police. He was a parole with no license but luckily his girlfriend signed saying she was driving and she had insurance. But he had guns in his house and was in violation of parole and got sent back for awhile. Funny if you ask me.

Being keyed is up in that realm...although I figured out a nice way of repairing key scratches...I need to do a write up shortly...my trial scratch (1 of about 9-10) and one of the deepest you actually can't see unless you are about a foot from the car and right in front of it...all other angles its successfully disappeared, and I haven't waxed yet!...pretty pumped actually...so let me know if you have some questions, if you can find a way to get the paint from the other car off the bumper (which Im almost positive isn't that hard, I though I read something on it one time) then I can probably gurantee your scratch repair will probably come out pretty good.

That sucks, I usually resort to wet sanding for things like that if it's just clear coat deep.

Re: Ever have a hit and run happen to you?

much deeper than that. actually how deep it is, is the only reason you can still see it from just a foot away, you can level it out and all, but it just leaves a scar on the car that you'll never be able to repair without absolute repaint.

In short I applied a bunch of advice from people on different forums. Get that paint off from the other car that hit ya. Then if its scratched passed the clearcoat and into the paint...tape off the scratch (this is the most tedious job. Literally try to tape the scratch so that only the scratch remains and NOTHING else, it is important that the good paint on the car is not exposed (and only deal with 1 scratch at a time if there are multiple scratches there beside each other top/bottom together...)

get your touch up paint matched to your paint/car, and brush it on the scratch area...apply 3 coats. Then apply 3 coats of clear coat -2 light, 1 heavy. Let it be for 1 week. Then hit it with rubbing compound then polishing compound...then rubbing, then polishing a second time. Then buy a kit called "Quixx scratch repair"...has like a mini wet sanding kit to it...follow the steps for that...probably the cleanest repair you can do minus a paint job.

like I said, I'll post some pictures and do a small write up when I have time. Im shocked at my results...hope that gives you some hope, cause I know how it feels.

It didn't happen to my Bird, but to my truck.

I was assigned to go to a Juve center and be a sub. When I got off work I notice the front bumper of my truck was on the ground.:omg: I piss too.

I just witnessed a hit and run in the middle of bumper to bumper traffic on campus. Middle aged man in a Lincoln got fed up with traffic and nosed out into traffic from a parking lot. Ended up smacking the rear bumper of the car in front of us. He backed up and then forced himself out into the other lane of traffic in front of someone else and took off. The car in front of us had started to pull off the road after getting hit and took off around the next turn to chase after him.

Fortunately we got the plate number off the Lincoln. Called in to the campus police and told them the info.
