  • Re: What Did You Do Today ?

yesterday i re-registered, tagged and brought my 98 back to life from a spun rod bearing from 2 years ago. replaced everything i could possibly replace with the engine out. now runs beautifully and enjoyed my first drive in over 2 years.... that is untill cruising down the interstate and realizing i forgot to tighten my pass. front wheel. luckily i had my 4-way LOL

today i put in my TRE-343 fuel pump from tre performance (access hole ftw).... now i need to save some more money to replace my dry-cracked tires and my fiberglass hood needs repainted from sitting in the tennessee sun for the past 2 summers

Make sure you take a nice wiff when you put the pump in... That was the toughest part of the swap, trying not to pass out

I did the torque arm bushing and it is nice, did the poly trans mount make a difference? I heard there are some issues with them.

If you drive it regularly I suggest against it, mine is at stock height and I already have to think about approach angles when entering/exiting steep driveways. And instead of hitting my air dam in the parking lot it probably would be the nose.

I haven't been able to find a tq arm poly... where'd you get it? And same warning I was given, if you don't like to feel your drivetrain, don't get one. With that said, I love it. No issues, you just might have to modify the crossmember a tad. Like drill a hole in it. I didn't have much choice when I got mine, I somehow tore 3 OEM replacement mounts within 30 days.

Also, with your noted lowering reply, I've driven my stock height car every day for the past 3.5 years, in Colorado, Texas, California, Kansas, and everything in between, and had ko major issues with ground clearance. Might wanna check if your springs are sagging.

Poly trans mount is def. a good mod. , Tq arm mount can be hard to install but well worth it. Just look for the V8 Tq arm mount since their the same.

I had to slot the hole in my trans cross member when I installed my poly trans mount, but my oem one was tore in half after 2 months, and i was told it had just been replaced when I bought the car.

Also, I've had Eibach Pro-Kit springs with about 2/3 coil cut installed on the front of mine for 2 years now, and as long as you're careful and watch for speed bumps and take an angle on steep driveways it should be fine. I've only scraped on a few larger speed bumps, and have not had any issues with scraping the nose on my 'bird.

I just did my energy susp trans mount too along with the torque arm bushing. Both were a pain in the donkey. I barely got that torque on. Now the break in period. What did you use to space the trans?

found out today that a dash pad from a 93-97 bird wont fit a 98-02 bird. found one intact and bought it for 25 bucks and didn't fit

For the poly trans mount, I just used a couple extra washers to space it properly. My tranny hung too low after the install and would pop out of 2nd and reverse because the shifter would hit the back of the opening in the center console. A couple extra washers on the bolt going into the trans lifted it enough and I haven't had any issues since.

Yeah i didn't use a spacer either, only the plate, washers and lock washer that came with it. Reverse i feel it move but slightly and its not a clunk.
