  • School questions,nascar or dealership

okay so i just graduated high school and still do not know exactly what i wanna do i know i have it down to a few things mechanical engineer, auto mechanic, machinist. okay i am wondering if you guys think it would be a good idea to go to uti right near me not even an hour or so away and maybe do nascar institute and since im near charlotte which is a big place for nascar i think i could go do the uti nascar stuff and get a good job around charlotte with a race team like hendrick or something or do you think it would be harder than that to get with one of the big teams or would it be better to just go to uti for a dealership like bmw ford mini toyota or nissan??

You have to finish all your classes for auto, then you'll be able to take on the elective you chose.

One thing you need to understand about working with a race team.

1st... expect to travel every week.
2nd... don't expect that great of money
3rd... it will be hard to break into, you will need to know someone.

You can become an autotech, I don't know much about the market, and what is needed and cost options from schooling.

I became a aircraft Mechanic, and work for Boeing(I see you are in SC) I actually got to work ground crew for the 2nd 787 off the production line last night.

Unless you already work on cars, or really have a passion for working on other peoples dirty, broken, nasty cars every day, DO NOT go to UTI. I shelled out nearly $30,000 for UTI's auto/deisel program and decided halfway through that as much as I enjoy working on my own, that I didn't want to work someone elses for a living. Don't get me wrong, UTI gives you a first class education, but the odds of becoming an automotive technician after going to school there is about 1 in 3 or so. Now if you were to take a manufacturer specific program, like BMW, Volkeswagen, Toyota, International, etc. your chances would be better of getting into a big dealer where the money is. In the end, it's up to you. That's just my experience.
