Semi-old thread, but I got a best of 27mpg averaging 80-85mph on a trip to Tulsa back when I had 3.08s. I had headers, CAI, and a whisper lid back then.
Not sure what I would get now. I haven't taken it on a road trip since then.

Heck, on this site a one-month old thread is nearly new :D
To the original topic; I've seen 30 mpg a few times, always on long highway trips when the average speed is 65-70. It's not uncommon to see 26-28 in mixed driving, but when I was using the car to commute from Fredericksburg to DC, in frequent bumper-to-bumper traffic, I was only getting 23-24.
Oh, and fwiw my car is an '02 5-speed (3.23 gears), w/intake, exhaust, and PCMforless tune.
Yeah, I have heard about it for a long time, but I never really believed it, after getting all of my scanners when i engine brake the mpgs go up to 9999.
I may be mistaken, but automatics do this also, I know my girlfriends car will go up to 150+ average mpg after resetting it and moving without hitting the gas
