How did you do that??? I understand a T/A with some snow tires. Do they make snows big enough for a Vette? A Vette in the snow sounds very dangerous, you every slide out?

Traction Control is a blessing! Starting off in 2nd gear in my T/A and in the vette its a Auto..

Forget the New Challenger, going to "Overhaul" my Ws68 y87 Convertible



I've decided against buying a new car.. Going to Overhaul my convertible instead.

The seams on this second top of my car are slowly wearing out and becoming unseemed. The rear glass is slowly becoming unglued, so it needs replacing. The top's brass bushings and bolts are loosening up and I think one of the pump's hoses broke, top will not go back up after lowering it.

I need my engine rebuilt or an overhaul.. it has a lifter ticking away and is sounding louder and louder. My oil pump is loosing pressure after 25 minutes of driving and gets hot and pressure drops dangerously low if I'm stuck in traffic.. not good.

I want the suspension bushings replaced. They are the original and, well need new ones.

I want my car completely repainted and engine compartment repainted as well after the engine is out for the overhaul..

I need my interior redone in leather and fabric/cloth.. yes, it's not torn but it's ugly as it has stains and to me an eyesore.. The rug at the gas peddle is worn out to almost metal.. lol

I want a 1 stop shop for all the work.. don't want to use 5 different shops and take a year to finish... 1 month tops for everything and I think I found it..

So you decided to restore your bird instead of getting that DD Challenger?

That's cool.

If you live in Calif. West Coast Custom where they did the show Pimp My Ride can do all that for you at a good price. And no they don't do shonty work like in that show. They actually do good quality work according to what the customer want. I've seen it and I was impress.

Yeah... I'm putting about 10K on a restoration to my 97.. I stopped by a restoration shop yesterday afternoon and the owner took down some notes on everything I wanted..


All totals are approximate
New complete interior in 2 tone black leather and carpet = about 2.K,
New convertible top and bushings = 1.2K
New complete 3 coat paint and clear coat = 3K
Fix my engine with that hesitation it has = 200
Recondition my transmission = 200
Recondition differential = 200
New windshield 300
New fog lights, automatic antennae, new door hinges and lock clips, new rear Firebird face-plate = 300

Could be a little less or little more!

Can't wait to see it all done.. taking it in for the engine work on Tuesday!

Thanks.. I've been with this car since the beginning, when I drove Her off the showroom floor in Nov. 97. If I would let her go, someone else would give Her a face lift and drive a very nice looking convertible Ws68 Y89, a rarity. I just could not live with myself if I did that.. Too much of a piece of me to let Her be owned by someone else and destroy Her in 3 years!

I feel the same way too. It's true what they say "One Man's treasure is another Man's junk."

I couldn't do that to my Birds. I had a hard time selling my Fiero GT to this guy who did the fence for my parents, but I needed the money.

I put so much time fixing and restoring that Fiero that it was 65% done. This guy I sold it too ran it to the ground and in less than a year it now sits in a junkyard all striped and gutted.

It really broke my heart and I was piss at myself for letting it go.

My convertible is about to get some rest. For the past 15 years "Amanda" my 1997 Pontiac Firebird Ws68 Y-87 has never left me stranded, She was always there for me. 140k miles later She spun a main bearing and She is hurting.. She is dropping Her oil pressure after 20 miles or so. She will get Her engine overhauled and then get some rest.. in the mean time, meet Her replacement. A 2013 Dodge R/T Challenger I got today. She came with 7 miles on the speedometer... Gray on Gray. In a couple days He will get His Silver R/T side stripes and front light shades... Still yet to christen Him with a name.. "Amanda" you were Awesome! Now rest my child....... rest!

she is a beauty .. there going to stop making them in 2014 tho :( but i will get one right after i graduate from uti. and get a well paying job .. cant wait just gata graduate from high school first, then off to uti :rock:
