Appearance wise, I've since removed the antenna, replaced the windshield banner, did the exhaust, installed drilled/slotted rotors, and swapped wheels for polished and rivetless 18x9.5" C5z06 wheels.
I like the black on black look also the bird on the hood real nice cfreed:thumbup:

      • Thinking about up grading my brakes. The rotors need replacements reall bad. 151k miles on them now. And I don't know if they can be resurfaced now since they have a big lip on them now. Stock replacements are 200 all around or get drilled and slotted for 230 all around. I know it don't help much on the street use. But the look is nice. Or just save the money.

Any opinions if I should or not?

Ls swap should come in a year or 2.

I have some r1 concept drilled and slotted rotors that have been great and haven't warped for the few years that I've had them. If you're really looking for braking performance, drilled and slotted is more like a gimmick. There's less surface area to really stop on. However, if you don't do any road courses, I'd go with the drilled and slotted, they look better IMO.

Brakes are never something you should put off replacing. 151K miles on a set of rotors??? There is no way lol.....

            • Well once I get the swap it will be a drifting car. So the brakes will be abused. But should I get them now or not?
Or wait to do everything at one time. Mean while save up.

And yea the pads I have replaced when I got the car. The rotors and the fluid have 151k on them. The rotors show it also. When I got the car the rotors had a lip on them all ready. I told my self when I got the money I would replace them but now I don't know if I should. Since the swap , and might upgrade the front to the trans am spindels since they are bigger right? I still need to look into that also.

If your car is 98+ it already has LS1 brakes only upgrade would be Corvette brakes. If their bad might as well do the brakes.

its not a cheap swap, but its something i might look into someday for another project

Are you planning to put a manual transmission in there? I ask because you said you want it to be a drift car. I don't want to smash your hopes of drifting but unless you're ready to buy tires all the time and ready to invest a lot of money into suspension parts, I don't think these are the ideal cars to drift in. I had a neighbor with an EVO and he would just do normal road track racing and he had a ton of tires he went through, he wasn't even trying to burn them out all the time. Those engines go through hell drifting also, so you can pretty much plan on constant engine work. You're gonna need more power too, what are you doing performance wise?

I vote no for this drifting idea, but I'll try to help where I can if you want to keep at it.

For good practice, I'd advise getting an RC car and screwing around with that. It will give you great idea of throttle control. Eh, that's a few hundred bucks that could go into the real car though. Practice is invaluable though, and I'd rather wreck an RC car than the real thing.

Yes , a 6 speed will be put in along with a rebuilt ls1 or a low mialage ls1. I don't know if 315 hp will be enough to get it to drift tho. It does wheight like what? 3500lbs plus what I would wheight. The tranny would also be rebuilt and a cluch to with stand the abuse along with it. Also might change the rear end. Idk if my stock one would hold.

I know these cars are not the Ideal car to drift with. Peo ppl le usualy go with a 240, 350z, mustangs, 180sx, 300zx, ect but the reason I want to do this is to be different. Stand out from the normal "drift cars" and have fun but also show that not only imports can drift. I have a domestic. And when do you ever see a firebird drift. I've only seen to 1 in iceland. And one in long island. They ate both 1997 trans am and the one in iceland his is an automatic. I've been contacting via e-mail with him and he told me it can be done with modifications such as , rear suspention modifications. And steering modifications. There is a video I put on here some where of that trans am drifting. The thread is called drifting. I started it a while back. Check it out if you like. Its a good video

As for the tire situation. Yes I know its a lot of money just to keep buying tires. But that's part of drifting.

Performance wise will be alot of suspention modifications, light wheight reductions. And engine work if the extra power is needed. I'm not going to go full drift car on it. I want be able to drive it on the week ends also you know.

If you want to know deep into details on performance. Right now I have an idea on suspention wise but engine work. I don't. I also want to learn how to do the swap on it also. I want to get hands on and learn my self.

Practice wise. There is an event here in tx that happens every month its called up shift videos. They rent out a air port and you can go drift/autocross for just 25 bucks. Helmets required also. They have videos on you tube also, you can check them out if you want:thumbup:

All this will take time so be patient guys.
And yes the help would be much appreciated:D

                              • Hey guys I've seen something called a torque arm relocation kit. What's the purpose for it. I know it relocated it but for what?
