They charge you $40 to bring your car in and $70 for something called the car corral? So, you supply the cars that the people pay to come see, but they charge you to bring your car..... so that they can charge the people that want to look at the car that they charged you for?

Call me a cynic, but that sounds like a money making machine for the promoters.

Looked it up, its $40 to bring your car into the show. but that also includes 2 adult admissions for the weekend.
The $70 car corral is if you want to sell your car. its a space available in the "for sale" section or something. That wouldnt apply.

And its really not that bad. I live right down the street from the Syracuse nationals. and I just looked online for what it costs. apparently only 1980 and OLDER cars can register online. and thats $40. but the show is July 19-21, and it says 1981 and newer cars can ONLY register at the gate only. on july 21. that must be a typo since thats the last day of the event.

Not to mention just a general admission has been steadily increasing every year. I think i went with my dad and brother. and 3 tickets was just about $50

Definitely doing that in the next few days.is there anything you should avoid getting it on tho? Wires, alternator, battery, coils, connections?

I've never been selective with the spray or the water and in 20 years I've not had an issue using Gunk. I don't spray directly into the alternator and I use a soft cone spray unless I'm hitting the engine block, intake, pulleys were I'll use a full hard spray.

I didn't do too good of a job, but it cleaned it up a bit. I was at a buddies house and didnt have everything I wanted.
I wanted to tape up my coils, sensors and alternator, so I was a little hesitant to go buck wild. I also didn't have anything but a few paper towels. I'll do it again with some rags and a toothbrush.

The places I hit with a towel look really clean. But the valve covers that only had spray on still look dingy.

Even after rinsing off and having it run for well over an hour, I still smell the stuff burning off on my hot engine.

The plans are to drive it during the compliant weather and depending on my son and his care or lack of care of the car, I'll decide if I want to get involved with it and do a 383 swap or just let it go. A lot depends on him, and so far is not looking good.

I have dreams of having the body/paint fixed to perfection and putting wheels/tires on it as well as reworking the suspension during a swap to an old school holey/stroker build. I would not do that for a car that is not treated like gold, and so far I'm not impressed with him and how he is driving it around filthy.

That's a shame. There's nothing more I enjoy than seeing my car clean. I have it washed every 3-4 days. I'll be doing that even more often once. I start doing them by hand.(just go to the automatic up the street but damn that gets expensive). How old is your son? Hell I'm only 19. Turning 20 in 2 weeks

He's 17 and a half. He would rather lay in bed or on the couch, and once you force to actually get up, doing something like taking pride in a car is far too much trouble for him. He will walk out to a completely disgusting and filthy car and say it's clean enough and get in it and leave. Me, I take pride in my car. Even my POS daily driver 2012 Cruze gets washed by hand a couple times a week and machine polished every 4 to 6 weeks. I keep the interior spotless, the paint glowing and the wheel wells scrubbed clean and black. Every wash sees the door jams, trunk jams and under hood wiped down dust and spot free. On my 2012 Camaro I'm a bit more anal than I am with my Cruze.

Sometimes it's better to let them work hard for it so this way they can take pride in owning it. I still have my very first car that I bought in 1990.

Oh yeah, I spend about 4-6 hours washing, wiping, waxing, and detailing my cars. It's a pleasure.
