  • So when did LETZRIDE get an LS1?

Ive been absent and I completely missed the part where he disowned his V6 after all the praising and prophesising he's stood up for to it!

    What happened?

    How did this occur?

Re: So when did LETZRIDE get an LS1?

Long story, don't think I fully thought it through, still miss the 6

        But a coles notes recap:

        - Me and a buddy got into an argument about v6 vs v8's and pricing, we went online to settle it and to prove that you couldn't find a clean ls1 for under 10gs around here (which you still for the most part can't) In our searches we found an LS1 for 6,000 and since we were bored decided we'd go look at it (because I told him it would be in **** condition)

        - got there and looked at the car and it was in pretty good shape...we left and I just let it kind of sit in my mind.

        - To get the bug out of my system I decided I would go look at the next cheapest LS1 online the next day just to prove to myself I was faster than the v8 and didn't need it (and again, I was bored)

        - Just as I pulled into the lot to look at the second cheapest car (priced at 8g's) I snapped 1 of my Lower PA racing A arms right in half.

        - As I was sitting waiting for the tow truck I started letting my mind wander and weighing options and it went like this:
        - As much as I love my car, I was keyed about 2 years ago. I was able to fix about 75% of the scratches, but between my front bumper being stone chipped like crazy and my rear bumper having to be painted as well, the car needed a paint job (the car still looked awesome from 5-8ft away- I took damn good care of it, you've all seen it in videos) but it still needed a paint job- That's about 5gs to be done right over here.
        - Then I thought about the frame rails and how they are rusting and were beginning to push upwards that needed reinforcing and was likely going to be 1-2 grand
        - Then I also thought about how hard it is for me to now pass emissions due to the new testing we just implemented and no ability to work around it with the sniffer test
        - I then looked at having a likely 3 week downtime on the car with this busted A-arm

As all those thoughts swirled in my mind, I decided to go back to the guy with the SOM Camaro and inspect it further. After inspecting it for about 2 hours (brought a jack and all) I determined it needed a rear main seal, and it had surface rust on the underbody from never being rust coated and that would need touching up.

I offered the guy $3500 cash (not expecting him to take it at all) and he did. The car has 84,000 miles (135,000km) on it, clean title, clean car, not issues other than what I stated and it needed a window motor and rad fan (which I just took the fan from the v6)

So I jumped the gun and bought the ls1. Why I jumped the gun and parted the v6 I still don't really know. I wish I didn't, I think that is a decision that I will regret for the rest of my life.

Bottom line, the 6 was still faster than my ls1- I still question what I did.

You haven't even been to the track yet so how would you know its slower?

I bet that thing runs a mid 13 at 104/5 stock.

For 3500 you shoulda just resold it for twice that, and then either have a lot of money in your pocket or put it towards your v6. Damn shame :(

I can feel it's slower, when I hop on the highway and I am in the merge lane I giver at usually 40-50km/h always and I would hit 140 by the time I ran out of lane, with the ls1 I hit 125ish

I actually bet it would run a low low 13 as it sits right now...but remember I am 100% positive, doesn't matter what anyone says, that that 6 would have cracked off something in the 12's...that 13.4 was lean through 3rd gear, and those stupid rims I used that day were twice as heavy as my weld prostars.

Plus I had done more weight reduction since that 13.4 run

speaking of weight reduction, I just put my radio in the new car and you have to remove that stupid plastic tray that holds the monsoon radio in...it weighed a few grams, I was pretty pumped

You have no idea how close I was to buying Meemperor's cartuning turbo kit literally a few days before my arm snapped.

I literally sent him an offer and was going to wait until payday and scoop it up. My plan was to officially get that 12.xx slip then f*ck it and toss the turbo kit on. It meant I was going to have to redo the gears in the rear end which I wasn't happy about, but looks like I am redoing them now anyways.

again, what's done is done...hasty decision on my part and something I feel I'll regret for awhile.

I also absolutely hate starting from scratch modding this car to. I haven't researched exhaust setups in years...I don't even consider it a real modification!

It's pretty typical among racers here to jump on a V8 . We will never really know just how far you can take a V6.

Grand Nationals have been in the 7's but it gets expensive and the streetability and reliability aren't there anymore.

I'll be ordering 3.73's soon along with the install kit for the Ford.

Do you know how the TCS and ABS sensors sit in these rear ends? How are they in the wheel bracket housing? I'm hoping to avoid having to swap the rear brake bracket that goes on the end of the housing if possible...that means new bearings/seals that need to be pressed onto the axles if I do...

I've done the free ram air mod and the SLP lid...what other free mods am I missing? I only found info on the one!!

True. Once you get to 12 or 11 sec for V8 and 13 or 12 sec. for V6 reliability and streetability is compromised, unless if it's today's V8 and turbo V6 (GTR) cars.

Tim King still holds the fastest with 8's

Tim King is one of those examples that I've mentioned about V6 racers who doesn't stick with their V6s for long. Tim does have the potential to take his Bird to 7 sec. because he has the mph of a 7 sec car.

V6 Mustangs have the same story too at V6power.com. Not too many racers their were upgrading to the V8 because the power difference between those 2 engines weren't a whole lot not till '05 when the Stang V8 finally got 300hp and then 315 and now over 400.

tim had circumstances that forced him to part his car. so its not fair to say he gave up on anything. he never really tapped that cars full potential, when he decided to part it he was still working suspension issues out with it. it wouldve run 7s no problem otherwise.
