  • Front License Plate

I was at the gym yesterday and this guy who drives an SS Camaro got a $65 ticket for not having his front license plate. Along with the ticket he was noted to show up at the station at a certain time to prove that he has installed a front license plate on his Camaro or else he'll get another fine.

One guy mentioned that he saw a cop going around the parking lot checking out everyone's license plate. I was fortunate. I never took my birds to the gym because I was worried about door dings, but imagine if I did.

I don't have a front plate on either bird. To me they look tacky. In the past I've gotten away with a couple of warnings, but I never did anything about it. :poke:

Both of my Camaros don't have the plate on the front cause I also think it looks tacky, I have my plates in the windshield on the dash so technically they are displayed. I have been pulled over in both cars and each time the cop just gave me a warning and told me to get the proper bracket.

huh- I was pretty sure they can't give you a ticket unless your car is in motion and as long as you are not on a public road.

Gym parking lot would be private property, Im pretty sure you could tell him you took it off to clean it or some BS and you'll put it on when you leave and if he wants to wait around for the next ohhh I dont know 6 hours while you take your sweet time, he's more than welcome to...

Pretty sure that is an easy win in court.

now, if you are on a public road, completely different story

Cops can do what they want, when they want. If they are wrong, you go to court and its a 50/50 shot. Most people just pay the fine since they dont want to go to court. Is it legal, no. Do they care, most dont.

Ive had no front plate on my G body cutlass for 5 years. Bracket is out of production. Not finding one in the salvage yard ever. NOS ones go on ebay for $200. Short of attaching it to the core support its not happening. Could a competent machinist like me build one? Yes, but front plates are tacky. :)

When I imported my Camaro 10 years ago I was forced to put a front bracket on for the plate, I hate it, but there isn't another option.

X2 on the BS ticket writing... Can't give that kind of ticket on private property

I'm glad that AZ doesn't do front license plates. That would suck.

Definitely been considering a hide away plate. Last time I got pulled over the cop walked directly to the front of my before he even said a word to me. Looking for a plate to hit me with another ticket.

Maybe in Canada, but the last time I got a verbal warning I was at a bread store. Here in Calif. it's totally different.

That is also illegal, you can't modify your plate, and you can't cut off any part of it that has information i.e the part above and below the plate numbers

I haven't had one for years.. and now I'll have an excuse. Can't attach a plate to a intercooler...
They don't give a sh*t about that, they didn't ask you to install an intercooler. They're going to tell you if you can mod the car, you can mod a bracket to put the plate up, otherwise don't mod the car or don't put it on the street.
