  • So What's the Difference Between a GN 3.8 vs. 3800 II engine

Other than the low compression pistons and stronger rods I don't see a whole lot of differences between the two (and ofcourse the little obvious things like gaskets).

So if we could modify our pistons and rods then that means we could safely boost our engines and run it up to 14-15psi.

    Correct???

I downloaded a PDF discerning the differences between the "new" series 2 3800 from the series 1 years ago. I'll see if I can find it again.

However, with a good tune you should be able to push 15psi (a redundant number without actually knowing turbo size and flow specs) and more without issue on the OEM parts. Rods and pistons aren't particularly a weak point for those that know what they're doing.

Otherwise, for the money spent trying to retrofit older style parts, you could probably go with new forged pieces.

Im fairly certain that the heads are completely different as far as how the ports are set up as are the manifolds etc...

x2 I remember looking into this awhile back, because they had aluminum headers that were far cheaper than zzps set but it wouldn't mount up.

I think there are quite a few differences if memory serves me right- but Im not much help until I have time to go back and dig through what they all were. Unfortunately I am swamped with work until the end of August...so if you want to wait a month

Just between the series I 3800 and the series II virtually nothing carried over, I'd imagine even less from the GN 3.8s.
