  • So I almost didn't pass smog because of this...

Some you know that I replaced my Random Tech Cat with a Calif. complaint Cat made by Magnaflow. I did lost some power and the car runs a little bit quieter than before, but it did an excellent job with the emission. With Random I'm always borderline at failing emission, even when I got it new. I did removed the supercharger and other mods from my car in order to pass visual. The tech guy still frowned at me for even having that Magnaflow cat.

But that's not the problem, he didn't like it that I have a fuel pressure gauge with its wires and sensor connected to the fuel line. He spent over 30 mins. debating me whether he should fail my car or not. He also thinks that I've tapped into to my fuel injectors and changed the settings. I said no.

He looked up Firebird in the internet and went to google image and tried to see what a stock V6 engine bay is suppose to look like. He kept shaking his head at me telling me I shouldn't have modified my car.

After arguing and him going back and forth to inspect my car he finally decided to let it go this time. :spank: But he gave me a strong warning and recommended that I remove all those accessories and mods.

I'm just glad that he didn't see or recognize my FMU that's connected to my return fuel.

California is crazy place to live in with modded cars.

I would of pulled it from the shop and went elsewhere. Tell that guy his job is to check if you have your required emissions pieces on the car, not whether or not you are modified...ask him do I have a cat- yes? my EGR- yes? my evap- yes? are my o2 sensors in working order- yes? Ok, your visual is done...test the f'n car to see if it is mechanically sound...oh what's that? no DTC's, all systems ready?... pass the car and take the money, or give me the keys back and I'm not paying you because you're a scam

I have zero patience for people like that

Thank goodness I'm in Ohio where we don't have emissions. I have no catalytic converter, EGR, or rear o2 sensor lol

I said that too Mike, but in Calif. every year they make up new emission laws that makes it very hard to pass visual.

Smog here is bi-annual and every time it's time it gets harder and harder. Pretty soon, changing your muffler might be ban. It's crazy.

I will someday move out of state and delete my egr, cat, and o2.

Where in N. Arizona are you from, Steve?

Ya, some of that stuff is an issue here depending on how you spin it.

I believe here you aren't allowed to change your Cat before 7 years or something silly like that...except if it is damaged..."sir you have an aftermarket cat on the car" "Ya, I'm such an idiot, I was on the phone talking to the gf and I mixed up the brake and gas and went over a curb and crushed it...cost me $1500 to repair the stupid thing"

Sometimes it is just "how" you answer things...always needed to replace the part because it was damaged, not for aftermarket or modification purposes...or it was a factory "upgrade" that the dealer told me was an option on a select few models and they did it with "OEM" parts...

Muffler was replaced..."Ya some idiot backed into me...dealer said this was an OEM on the upgraded option on the upgraded models of my car and they could use it"....just play stupid as in, hey the dealer told me it is oem, who am I to question them...

It's the same thing here too, Mike. You're not allowed to change your OBDII cat unless it's damage and if it is then it has to be another OBDII or if your car is over 30k miles.

I paid someone to do it back then, but back then they weren't as strict. I've always taken it to a guy who doesn't inspect. All he cares is that you pass you emission. Unfortunately he was fired last year.

                -------------------

Steve, the reason I ask is because I had a job interview at Scottsdale, Arizona. I didn't get the job though. :(

                I would've loved living there.
