• Pictures from the accident..

http://www.tildastudios.com/roy/car/

My goal is to spend the winter fixing the body damage. I'm not sure if I should do the body work or if I should let a shop do it. I'm going towards the route of doing the body work myself and then in spring getting it painted by a shop.

I really like the green color, so I'm gonna go with the same green and black stripes.

Anyways, just thought I'd share the pictures.

[backstory]
I got rear ended on 76 East towards Philadelphia. The lady pushed me into the car in front of me. As much damage as there is in the front, it was the rear that really got nailed.

Yaa.. They're giving me $6100 and I get to keep the car. On top of that, the title is not going to be a salvage title.

I'm supposed to receive the check early next week, so I'm not making any plans until I get that.

Yaa I am lucky. I'm going to try and do as much work as possible myself. I figure I'm going to need most of it to purchase all the parts and get a nice paintjob in the end.

well i was going to do that to the maro!! but the damage i had there was possible hidden damages, so i too it to a body shop(est. was 3800) turned out they found more wrong and went over 5k worth..actually i pin pointed the damages!! so just make sure there is no hidden damages before you start spending all that money..i got 6200 and my car back but i sold it for 800!! some ppl said i was stupid and prolly am for doing it but i wanted the car i have now!! much happier, plus my car got a little water damage and the tree laid on the hatch for 2 days so i figured it was just gonna be too risky too fix up!!! also my car was not salvage titled!! the guy put a back glass in it and new hood and paint touch ups!! and is gonna go with it!! but oh well im much happier with my bird, it has much more the camaro didnt have!!.. less miles, ttops, power everything!!!

you might be better off buying a new car like chet did, i bought my 1998 firebird with 47,000 miles for 9000 w/ taxes, with a 6000 down payment you could even buy a z28 or trans am and get low payments(used are around 14k-16k)...
or buy a 3.8 and get even lower payments

Ahh, but 97 is my favorite year for later models I definitely did consider just selling my car and getting a Z28. Honestly, I'm still considering it. This is my first Camaro though and I always grew up loving muscle cars. As soon as I graduated college and got a good job, it was the first thing I saved up for. I dont want to just give up on it.

I guess I'll see what happens when I open her up. From what I find out doing that, I'll make the call as far as what I want to do with it. Until now, I'm perfectly happy with my v6. I didn't get the Camaro for just the speed (although I'm not turning any down). I got her for the heritage and history behind the car. An upgrade to a Z28, while it would definitely be an excellent upgrade, is not something that I am dieing to do.

Anyways, I'll be sure to keep you guys updated on what happens. Thanks for all the advice

The expensive part will be the rear 1/4 panel...

see what that costs to fix... If that isn't bad, slap a new hood, fender/nose, and get repaint.

part out the car and use that check as a down payment for something else.

Explore your options, cause you could have a good chunk of cash if you part that car out or sell it on top ot it.
