Yah it's not the first... hell it's not even the first this month. Earlier there was one down near Temecula and near the beginning of the year I remember seeing funnel clouds off the coast on the news. I think there was also one over the island of Avalon. They happen. It's just getting a lot of coverage now because storms in SoCal are the next "thing". Interest is low in the Tsunami incident, now we have to spin up our new "thing".

Ya I'd say once every few years a few SMALL tornados pop up in Cali, accompanied with thunderstorms producing hail and the such, but the hail doesn't get Texas sized or anything. Prolly at the max, maybe marble sized, but usually pea sized or smaller.
These few tornados yesterday though, produced some significant damage to homes and business, like ripping off small tiles from roofs and knocking down fences and picking up backyard type tables and chairs and flinging em blocks away. One guy was interviewed on the news, he was in his car when one of the tornados was right over him, blew out the windows and lifted the car about 1-2 feet off the ground. Guy behind him saw the whole thing too, to back up his story. Funny thing is, the guy who saw it, his name was "Stormy" LOL. There were also many ameteur videos of the various tornados.
It did touch down in the parking lot and down the street in the neighborhoods. I should know, I work at Raleys, 100 yards from the gas station where it started. It started their and then went up onto our roof and tour a few hundred shingles off the roof while destroying car windows and peltering the cc's out in the parking lot.

yeah the storm was bad, i work at the airport so i saw everything first hand, it was horrible, i got pics i just cant post them i dunnno how.....the hail storm was crazy too. hail was marble sized
