I work for an oil and gas company as a landman, so I'm familiar with the assesment office, map office, and record room.

What office would I need to go to?

Another thing, this is going to sound bad, but I've never actually been to the drag strip...haha I know there is this kanawha track but I've never been there, where exactly is that one?? I was going to go and kind of scope it out.

This will happen, may not happen soon, but it will happen sometime in the near future. I'll be the first to admit I don't know everything associated with opening a track, thats why I'm asking so many questions. And am greatful for any and all adivce, input or suggestions anyone can give me.

Yeah man, me and a few of my buddys run down there like once a month when they're open. You oughtta head out some Thurday night this year.

What kind of time are you running down there?

Oh and, I heard some talk last season that they were considering a 1/4 mile track down at Ona.

are you familiar with the Gallipolis/Pt. Pleasent area? if you are, right off the bridge going from Gallipolis to Point, get on route 35. the track is about 12 miles from the bridge. its a narrow 2 lane road with a lot of semi traffic. kind of intimidating at first but its not a bad drive at all.

        heres the site:

Hey man, 94Firebird gave you some pretty good directions to get down there, but there are other ways too. We always come in from the other direction. If you want to hop in our line of cars next time we go, just lemme know somehow.
Also, this goes for both you and 94 Firebird, if you guys want to meet up down there or something, lemme know.
The first Thursday Night Thunder is April 8th, I'm hoping to be there.

Ona is not too far from Huntington, but there's not a 1/4 track there, just rumors of one going in there eventually. Ona is here http://members.aol.com/wvskier/ona/map.html
Something like 20 minutes from Huntington.

Well, after running for 2 years down there, the fastest N/A 3.8 FBody me and my buddys have seen ran a 9.925 @ 71.88mph. Most of them I've seen run mid 10s, and I've even seen a couple 11 second passes down there. I don't think I'd be wrong to say your cousin's GT isn't stock. Everything runs slower than they should at our track. We'll see how things go this season though.

              Chris,
yeah im probably up for it on the 8th maybe i can get my cuz to go too. i know he drives a stang but hes a pretty cool guy lol. no its far from stock however we've got it torn apart in his garage now from a blown head gasket. that sucks about the times....it does seem like cars run slower there. its so hard to hook i guess.

Yeah, I know 9.925 doesn't sound all that fast. But that's just 0.026 seconds short of 9.8s. I still think our track is slower than most though. Like I said, most Stock 3.8 Fbody's run 10.5-11.4. Sad I know. Our elevation is supposedly 560'. I've seen sotck WS6's run low-mid 9s there too, but one with a lid and muffler run a best of 8.66.
I raced a Nissan Sentra SE R Spec-V back in 2002. I was still stock(ish), he had intake and exhaust, I pulled about half a car on him. Still though, I wouldn't expect any kind of great times at our track. I've personally watched a Lingenfelter 427TT run mid-high 6s. Not exactly what they should run. Should be closer to 6 flat.

I don't know that it's really a traction issue per-say. I've pulled a couple 2.18-2.19 60' on street tires. I think it's our DA, we're almost always running with high humidity and high temps, not to mention the barometric pressure.
I'm hoping it doesn't rain or snow that day. I'd really like to break into that 9.8 slot.
If ya go man, just look for the Orange Camaro w/ black stripes, that's prolly gonna be me.

I'd definately like to go up there on the 8th, I don't know if I'll be here or not though. I'm in between projects right now. I'll know tomorrow if I'm going to Indiana, if not I can start a project in Marietta. We will see though.

But then you need to get permission from your city.

                    Which is the hardest part.
HAHAHA. You cant build a track for a 100k. No way. There is a new 1/8th mile track being built here where I live and its already up to 1.5 million, this is a 1/8th mile track! Its not that cheap, if you dont believe me, build one, i bet you hit your budget before building even begins in just materials and equipment. Besides, that is not a very profitable business unless you go big time and try to offer national events, etc and in that situation be ready to spend way more than 1-2 million. It would have to be a top of the line super nice facility.

Nicklz, it would probably be best to just call the front office and see which department holds all those maps. chances are they are in several different departments and your county may or may not have the following:

                      department of public works/utilities
                      department of planning
                      department of engineering

if you ask for any of those, the helpful people at the desk should be able to point you in the right direction; they may even retrieve the maps for you. once you get to the correct office, they will probably have a checklist of items that you'll need for any kind of development.
