• Cobalt?

My sister finally decided to get her permit, and being that she's getting her license pretty soon my parents were kinda thinking about cars to get her. My mom said a Mustang, but I kinda disagreed because even though I love my friend's 05 GT I don't think it's the most practical thing to get her to start with and they're over $20,000 for a base model.

Anything could work, but we have $3,000 off on their GM Card and I kinda like the Cobalt. Anyone here driven one before? I've never even sat in one, but they aren't bad looking IMO and they're fairly reasonable pricewise.

My girlfriend has a cobalt, she loves it.
Personally I dont like it at all, the body styling is cool , but the interior is so boring, and the seats arent the most comfortable, nor do they support you very well like, in turns and whatnot..
Power isnt bad, i think its a 2.2 Ecotec possibly. Its a decent car but i sure wouldnt want one.

my mom bought one and so did a buddy of mine. its alot better than the cavalier IMO. honestly when you sit in it, it feels kind of like sitting in a fbody for some reason. the interior is pretty nice, i wouldnt say great though. my mom got the base model one and my buddy got a base one with the appearance package, which includes body kit, rims, spoiler and a fake dual exhaust i thought it was real until i looked under the car and there is a exhuast tip, but its connected to nothing. but other than the tip thing i looks pretty nice, i wouldnt buy one unless it was the ss supercharged, but thats me.

My fiancee has one and she loves it. I like it too. It's the base model one. It gets really decent gas mileage. I think its comfortable to sit in. I thought the interior was alright, nothing too fancy, but I like plain and simple stuff.

ehh.... I know many people are different, but I think everyone's first car should be like a less then $5k car. Then a little later an upgrade.

I agree w/ Eric. go with something cheap so if it gets dented and what not, it is not a big deal.

Regarding the Cobalt - my sister drove one and she LOVED it. My father bought her a Cav instead because of the deep discounts.

I did drive our old Silverado as my first car, but I was only 16 when I got my license and we'd had it for years anyways. She's 18 now, way past when I got the Camaro and my dad doesn't want to deal with repairs on a used car. We've had too many issues in the past. I've even had over a thousand in waranty repairs done on my car in the last three years and it was brand new. The Firebird probably had more.

A Cobalt LT would be around $13K after the GM Card... and there's nothing small from a few years back that has a very good safety rating for much less. It doesn't have to be a Cobalt, but used isn't really an option.

as for the cobalt, i think the colbalt would be a good starter car. i have driven all the models of the cobalt and the SS of course was the funnest.

all 13 of my cars were bought with my own money. Prior to turning 18, not a single car of mine cost more was worth more than $1000 - some less than $200.

I bought my f-body when I was 27.

I've paid for all of my nice cars 100% myself, insurance and all. You appreciate your car more when you're paying for it yourself.
