• Wish Me Luck...

I just had my last puff this morning, crushed my remaining full pack and threw it away. Cleared out my car of everything that reminded me of smoking cigs and gave away my lighters to smoking coworkers.

I already talked to a lot of my smoker friends telling them I'll be seeing them in about a week (mainly for the reason that the first week is by far the toughest). Informed my smoking coworkers to not let me join or bum or anything.

These last few weeks I cut down from 15 a day..to 10 a day...to less then 5 a day. I'm now trying to quit all together. I figure if I can make it through this first week, it'll be a lot easier sailing from there.

For my own benefit, my reason for quitting is strictly health-related - DUH! I'm sick of having down time while working out and not putting on weight as I should. I've been eating mad amounts of food but have not been putting on the weight that I should be. I attribute 99% of it to smoking. I hate smelling like an ashtray and wasting money that could go into my car or towards another good meal.

If you have any suggestions for quitting, let me know. I am very open to suggestions. I hear gum and mints, and funny enough, candy cigarettes help as well with the physical addiction of the motions of smoking.

Thanks for reading my mini-novel.

I quit about 2 years ago over a weekend. I had my last cigarette Sunday night and didn't look back. What helped me the most with quitting was reading "The easy way to quit smoking" by Allen Carr. This book doesnt yell at you about the bad things about cig's, it doesnt tell you how stupid you are being, it even says to keep smoking while you are reading the book.
The same week I quit smoking I started working at a bar. Not the best enviroment to quit in. I had no cravings what so ever. It was great. So I highly suggest reading that book.

hooray! I quit too. I quit on Sunday night. It was sort of a spur of the moment thing. I had one cigarette left and was getting ready for bed and I was debating on whether or not to smoke it or save it for the morning and I just decided I would quit and I have been doing good since. It's tough but I'm trying to stay strong. I went running on mon & tues and I couldn't believe how much easier it was. There's just too many reasons to quit

Yep cold turkey, already got past the first day.

I am getting agrivated more and a head throb comes and goes, but it's tolerable. I've had much worse situations.

I'm just glad I'm deciding to quit after five years rather then 15+ years.

Thanks for the support. It's hard not hanging out with 90% of my friends because they're chain smokers.

that's because sunflower seeds are delicious and contain lots and lots of vitamin E which is an antioxidant for lower cholesterol and better heart health... not to mention you can eat them all day long.

for me a big part of smoking is just having something to do, so sunflower seeds satisfied that desire... very labor-intensive snack.

Good luck!

A former boss of mine quit his heavy smoking and became a popcorn fanatic for a while.

It was great going to his office tho'. It no longer reeked and there was always loads of free popcorn. Plus, I didn't have to wonder if he was going to ask me to buy him a pack of Lucky Strikes or Camels at lunch.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

GOod luck with it - the book nathan was telling you about is awesome. Of course I started smoking again while I worked in a bar/restaurant where EVERYONE smoked, and the only way to get a 2 minute break was to go out back and smoke during an 8 or 9 hour shift without breaks. THe thing that is the hardest is the 3rd week. After that, it's pretty much a piece of cake as long as you don't convince yourself that you can "just have one" - they're like Pringles - once you pop, you can't stop. I started smoking cloves every once in a while, convinced they didn't have nicotine in them... boy was i wrong. I'm now going to have to attack that book again soon and quit. The great thing about that book was what Nathan said, but also that I didn't eat everything in sight, had no headaches, no withdrawal symptoms, and didn't gain weight...

I think you hypnotize yourself while reading or something. It was SO easy to quit, and I didn't even want to quit when I read it. if you can't find it in Borders or Barnes and Noble or someplace, you can probably get it on amazon.com...
