How did you guys handle your friends leaving for college?

Oh Boohoo. I've never kept friends for more than 3-5 years. They either move away, die, or we get sick of each other and become strangers. Just a part of life. Good opportutinty to broaden your horizons and meet new people from different walks of life

Worry about your own life and what you want to do with it and where you want to be in the future. Don't let missing your friends hold you back.

If you spend all your time relying on friends for a pillow or a safety blanket, man you are never going to get anywhere in life.

I have friends that are so dependant on other friend. They need to hang out, talk, go out and do things... and they are going nowhere in life because they spend so much time being "social" that they don't have time to better themselves.

Most of my close friends didn't go away. They either are going to community college like me, or are bums and just not going to school. I think I only have one friend that's away, and it's only a few hours ... she has AIM and we talk almost every day still.

We always rip on eachother like that. I always call my friends retards, dumb*sses, douches, etc. I especially like to take the word c*ck and put random words after it, like nazi, swindler, slap, stroker, etc. It's great fun [img]smile.gif[/img]

The hardest part about keeping in touch with high school friends is that people change so much when they're in college and after. It's a great time of life, and most people are away from home for the first time, and you make new friends and it's harder to stay in touch with your old ones. Guys especially have a harder time "staying in touch" in general over their lifetimes... mostly because of some of the attitudes you saw posted up before - not condemning you guys, but that doesn't exactly make for longlasting friendships, and believe me, you'll want them eventually.

my experience was that the friends I made and kept from high school during college I had a harder time keeping in touch with afterwards because I felt like there's only so much money you can spend to see people and so mostly you keep in touch with emails...

but my two best friends from college I would never lose touch with I don't think and it's because the three of us make it a point not to... and if not everyone is putting in that same effort, it'll fall apart.

Just my experience - and if you feel like you are losing touch with your old friends, just remember to ask yourself if it's because you're not trying or because they're not trying - it happens to most people and you just have to figure out whether it's worth it or not... just have fun at college and enjoy meeting new people. Chances are, you'll change while you're there too (I'd say growing up, except most people end up backpeddling for a few years in college due to alcohol consumption ;) )

Some of us have higher goals and ambitions than others which require more time away from our friends.

I have many successful friends. The great thing about them is we don't need to hang out every week and such to maintain friendship. We all have goals in life in which we are trying to achieve and are proud of each others accomplishments.

Perhaps you and your friends should lay off the "Who can drink the most white russians." on a wednesday night. You'll never make it to the olympics with a beer gut.

dont do what i did back in the day and tell em all how you really feel about them when they are showing their worst side... they tend to not talk to you ever again... then you have to go thru the hassle of finding new friends and spend a lot of time on the internet shooting the **** with compleetly random strangers...

Personally, I think if you absolutely have to have other people around at all times to be happy you won't get too far in life. Sometimes the only one you can trust is yourself. Self sufficieny is a lost virtue nowadays.

I've had to say "f*** it" to the world and most everyone I knew for a while and go my own way a few times, it happens. Am I a better person because of it? Definitely.

I'm going to enjoy college, I already made a lot of new friends at orientation and look forward to making many more. I won't neglect my real friends from HS either (you know, the ones that were more than talkin sh*t and partying with).

How old are you?

Not everyone strives to be the richest person out of all their friends. Goals and abmitions can be accomplishments other than just personal wealth.

Perhaps as you grow older you will realize this.
