This past winter/spring I had to come to a decision on finding a vehicle I could drive year round. I needed a 4x4 diesel truck that could tow my 8500lb trailer (and the horse trailer we'll probably have in 2-3 years), and be heavy enough to handle a large slide-in camper with said trailers. So I ended up buying the '05 Dodge 3500 Cummins dually in my sig, and was able to swing it as a tax write-off for the business. I was planning on trading the Z28 in on the truck when I bought it in July, but the wife convinced me otherwise saying that we can in fact afford it.
Several months later, we have proven that we really can’t afford both the truck I need and a car as impractical as the Z28, despite how much fun it is to drive. I hate to have to let it go, because it really is my dream car, but I’ve grown up to the point where I prefer a little increased financial freedom over an impractical (but fun) car... it is in fact ‘just a car’. There are plenty of other things in my life that I can put that $360/mo (pymt/insurance) towards, like paying off my home equity loan, saving for buying the 40 acres in the mountains I dream every day about owning, or saving for the 40x60 heated/insulated shop I plan to build on that land.
Thanks for listening.. more than anything I’m convincing myself more than anyone else by making this post.
