I don't believe it. Looks like the author's just looking for a "story" to write a column on. It's an "urban legend" of sorts. It's been on MythBusters too. The first time I heard the story was back in 2001. Back then, the guy never had a motorcycle in the house. Supposedly the wife was trying to clean something and all her other household cleaners weren't good enough. She tried gas, and wringed the rag out into the toilet several times. The way the guy got exploded was the same though. Even the stretcher part was the same. I can't remember the exact results MythBusters got, but I seem to remember that they busted the myth.
