  • Bird was in pieces and now it is fixed, geared and ready

Below is my original post this morning.... update is below

Well, in prep for the Craig vs Me battle... I picked up brand new richmond 4:10's

    I currently run:
powertrax locker diff, 2 series gears only... or so I thought
    3:23 gears
3 series carrier <--- confirmation today

    I bought from Summit:
    4:10's
2 series carrier... per their tech dept they will fit....well... didn't fit

    So, computer tuned for 4:10's

Shop takes the rear apart.....can can not install the 4:10's and locker.

He buys.... w/o my authorization, 4:10's 3 series gears. I trust him.

I met him this morning prior to the 4:10's 3 series arriving... we spoke.... and I agreed on the 4:10 3 series being ordered.

Well..... I just got a call back from him

    What I have:
power trax locker differential, 3 series specific
    3 series casing
4:10's 2 series, not used, will be sent back
    4:10's 3 series
    Puter programmed for 4:10's

    Per him, NONE will fit!

He has let me know he does not like locker diff's.... he keeps in attempting to convince me to get a LSD unit.... F*CK that!

So....I decline to buy a LSD unit. Powertrax was $408!

I told him... put the car back together w/ 3:23's.

Called another shop....spoke with them.... they will look at it... tomorrow/ monday.

So.... stuck with $250 labor.... $200 on 4:10's 3 series gears.... the 4:10's 2 series will be sent back tomorrow...

And... I really can't drive the car around right now.

    I'm pissed as hell!

The last shop that did the install... mentioned it is a VERY tight fit!

I spoke with Powertrax and Richmond.

I have all the correct parts for the swap:
    4:10's 3 series
    3 series carrier shell
    powertrax locker
    deluxe gear install

I'm just plain bitter.... I did NOT need this.... last time I go to this shop.

And..... I've had 3 gear swaps by this shop before... and EVERY time it has been perfect?!?!?!?!?!?!

    I'm stumped!

Who is the ant? and who is the grasshopper?

Seriously, that blows. I hope everything works out well for you.

It looks as though I won't be able to try my new combo for two more weeks as there is a big storm coming on Monday.

Most likely, I will be able to get to Atco on Mar 8. Can't wait.

Well.... after several calls to Richmond tech line..... 1 tech solved all!

To reassemble the powertrax unit... there is something like 10 diff ways... only 1 way will fit.

It fits now... 4:10's are in.

Took it for a spin also :D

Snow on ground... it is wet... et streets on....part throttle launches....

Don't forget the secret weapon - get a pine tree air freshener hanging from the mirror (wait a sec - was the mirror removed for weight reduction?).

                    Good luck with the gears.

You really could get rid of that mirror. You know, since I won't be in it and all.

I haven't romped on them yet.... I'm aware of the 200+ mile break in.

The first drive... was 15 min then full cool down was allowed.

These... are not forged and lightened.... allegedly they are not made :(
