I got my LT1 6-spd for 5800 bucks, no winters with 56k and very good condition. My insurnace went up 20 bucks a month for the upgrade. The 3.8 just didnt have enough power for me. If you can affored the lt1 with all the extras get it.

Well, you can stick with your quote. But realize it only applies to Canada mostly. So in other words, to the original poster, if you move to his location, then his awesome jawesome plan would be the best no matter what.

Here is my rant and it is sure to get some flaming but I really don't give a ****.

First of all I knew damn well the performance differences between an LT1 or LS1 car and the 3.8 liter. I didn't care. I wanted a genuine RS car, not a stock 3.08 geared one legged, drum braked car.truth be told a real 96-97 RS car is rare. As far as the motor is concerned, there are lots of off the shelf parts out there to make these motors "fast".

I say fast like that because it is all the opinion of the person modifying the car. To me 300 hp is more than enough to muscle out 9 OUT OF 10 cars in daily driving. I don't need a 700 hp car to win the spot in the next lane. 300 hp is hard to get out of this motor N/A, but not impossible and not as expensive if you have someone help you. And I won't even get into the gains possible with power adders.

Lastly, if anyone is so pathetic to not love your camaro because someone other lame ***** says it isn't a "real" camaro without a V8, then sell the damn car and buy something with a V8.

I don't have any problem. it's just so old to hear all the V8 this and that.

This is a V6 site in case anyone here has forgotten.

we're all aware of where we are.

V8s are desired by all. but insurance makes it hard for some so they have to v6 first and wait. im sure 90% of the people on this site wanted a v8 fbody but opted for the v6 for insurance reasons. others did it becuase they get better fuel economy.

no one here is cutting on the v6 motors anyways. since most of the members here do have a v6. but some people would rather have out of the box power and torque over having to do it over a couple months/years.

                  to each their own.

The insurance thing is a cop out. I have looked at autotrader.com and there are at LEAST 40 LT1 fbodies at dealerships from 4500 to about 6500 bux. So this means that for the cost of a v6 car, you can get a pretty decent, although older model V8.

There are plenty of V8 fbodies to go around for the cost of a V6 model. and so that right there makes the insurance excuse just that.

ummm... insurance plays a big part of why most people start with a v6. i couldnt get the T/A or the Z28 i looked at when i was 16-17 years old. i could afford the car, but not the 330dollars a month insurance. now im older and can afford the V8 fbody. if you havent noticed most of the people on this site are still young for the most part. im sure they all,for the most part, drooled at the thought of a lt1/ls1 fbody. until they saw what the insurance was going to run them. then opted for the v6 for now to hold them over. thats what i did.

i have nothing bad to say about the v6 fbody. but my dream car has always been a V8 fbody. so when i could afford the insurance i jumped on it. which is what many of us do.

Or parents said no way you're getting a V8 for your first car. Ha-ha I know I wouldn't let my kids drive a T/A as their first car, I remember what I was like at that age... couldn't get anywhere fast enough!

You didn't earn money during school Vanbidder? I worked for a pizza company making minmum wage. Every month I made about 600 bux. More than enough to cover the insurance on my first car, a 91 z28 (insurance was 300 bux liability only since it was paid for). I saved for two summers before that, when I was 15-17 years old.

Sounds like some of you want to have your cake and eat it too. Get a damn job and cover the insurance. If your parents say "no" on something that has to do with your money then, I guess just keep it in the bank and buy one after high school.

We aren't taking about Ferrari's here.

It's not just the fact of a V8 costing more for a teenager in insurance and gas. After I had my license and a job for a few months I testdrove an '83 Capri RS and knew, knew if I got it I'd get in trouble. Even with my Escort I still got two tickets, got my license suspended and banged the car up twice just in the first year I had it. Knowing what my ego was like back then I can only imagine what it would have been like with a 302 car. But that didn't stop me from wanting it.

Erm, speaking of kids wanting a V8... your first car was a Z28?

And look at how pathetic that car is compared to our cars.

And this was also about 6 years ago. I didn't touch that car because I knew that it was not gonna be fast. A 5.0 TPI is about a 15 second car.

No way I was gonna mod it.

FunkZ you awnsered your own comment. It was my first car before I realized that I didn't need to have a V8 to go fast and there was no need to cough up that much for insurcance when I could have a six cylinder car that was not only faster, but loked better too

                                Good try though.

The fact is that those of you who have bought V6 camaros, not only did you waste your money if you knew that you really wanted a V8 model, you are gonna be the same people that turn around and rip on the V6 owners. It happens to all the guys that claim that they will always appreciate the 3.8, which always turns out to be bull.

If you aren't content with your car and don't want to "upgrade" your 3.8 liter, then just save up and buy the V8 car. Why waste time with a car that has unseen potential when you can buy a used, worn out Z28 with 112k on it??

Seems to me the choice fore all of you is more than obvious.
