Transmission flush on Dodge Avenger

Friend of mine just bought one for a first car, Grey in good condition with 65,000 miles on the clock. Belonged to a old woman so she never beat on it or drove it much. Hes doing a complete tuneup on it. Would flushing the automatic tranny be bad on a 65 K mile car? I've heard it can be bad and I've heard to would be good. Opinions?

it's bad on really old trannies, as teh bits & peices of teh crapped out clutch discs in the fluid is the only thing keeping the friction. on newer trannies, it's gonna be a non-issue (depending on the beating the tranny got)

Well its got 65K of unbeaten miles. Would new fluid and a new filter be ok?

Do you think chaning a original battery on the car is a waste or a good idea?

what yr is the car? yes, new tranny fluid is a GOOD thing.

What about the high mileage trans fluid? I have always wondered why they made it if changing it on high mileage cars is bad. I guess if you do it at like 75,000 miles its good? I dunno

on mopar transmissions like that, make SURE you use Mopar ATF+4 fluid ONLY. My first car was a Dodge Intrepid and if you ran knock off ATF+3 (+4 wasn't out yet) or Dexron/Mercon in it, It would eat the seals in the transmission.

Most mopar trannies don't have bands in them, they have a solenoid that shifts gears and hence why it makes that grinding noise when you take it out of park and into gear, you can also hear it grind when it downshifts.

Spend the money on the fluid from the dealer..same for the filter.
