I had a 97 Lumina as my first car. It had the 3.1 in it...160 HP...decent for stop & go acceleration, but not enough passing power for the highway. Of course, the suspension is very soft and there's generous amounts of body roll. I always though the brakes could've been better; standard front discs and rear drums. They just didn't seem (big) enough for the car. I dunno if if got discs all around since 1997 or not. My car didn't have ABS either. But, gas mileage is decent for V6 and it's pretty big. It feels cheap...well...because it is cheap. So, as a daily beater, I'd say it's about average...not the best car, but it will do the job.
