haha I agree it would be nice to change, but I think that hardest part like said imagine the road signs and mile markers nationwide.

We already have metric for the most part. Just check out the stuff you buy. I think we have the advantage of having both.
10 years ago when I was in a bodybuilding contest in England. I have to convert my weight to 'Stone'. I have no idea what they mean by that. And England still uses this system.
Besides, we'll get rip off more if we switch to metric. Imagine liters instead of gallons. Imagine lumbers and food measured in that small unit. My math & economic teachers in college told me this has happened alot to those country who switched.
building costs will skyrocket.... can you imagine contractors calling a 2x4 a 5.08x10.16? They will revolt!!
On the other hand, I have done some government work and they require their drawings (blueprints for buildings) to be labelled in BOTH imperial and metric units!! Major PITA.
