  • First privately-funded manned rocket in space

Right now the first privately-funded, manned rocket is heading into a low earth orbit of about 62 miles. They're using a reusable craft and the cost of the launch is a tiny fraction of launching the space shuttle. How far can we be from space vactations?

The next twenty years are going to be interesting. Now the private sector is involved, things are going to move fast!!

I actually got out of bed at a decent hour just to watch that. Really good.

And I agree, now that the private sector is involved there can be some actual progress without politicians sticking their hands into who gets bids, etc. and driving up costs.

The United States now has a certified and *operational* civilian space port.

        Read that again. Holy fark.

Because when one thinks of bleeding edge aeronautics and space technology, Oklahoma automatically comes to mind.

taco cabana is the shizzy. when i'm done eating, i've got enough tin foil, plastic cups, and styrofoam to build a small village.

Yeah, a private citizen took a privately funded spacecraft into sub-orbit so I turn on Fox News to try to see a video of the launch. You know what I saw? A report on J Lo and Ben Affleck not making the Forbes list of top 100 celebrities this year when last year they were 5th and 7th. WTF? How the hell is that even news worthy on a normal day not to mention a day when a private citizen was put into space by a private company?

Serious news is dead, it is all infotainment.

                              Rant done.
